This week was a battle of the remaining unbeatens in our league. Both the Great Lakes Wolfpack and my team, the Rock County Gladiators, came in to the game 2-0.

Statement game.

The only way they could stop our offense was when we stopped ourselves. The only way they could move the ball was by penalties. They only threatened once on a marginal pass interference call and the D held by picking off a pass 3 plays later.

A very good game for me personally. I never missed a block and averaged 10 yards a carry (Ok, so I only had one carry, but that STILL averages to 10 yards per carry!!!). On special teams, I recovered one attempted on-sides kick by them, had two solo tackles and caused a fumble. I also got completely clobbered on the last kickoff (I feel that one till pactice on Wednesday). We went with our regular O most of the game, so I had alot of playing time. Here, let me tell you how the first quarter went:
Kick return (Recovered on-side attempt). Regular O drives the rest of the way for a TD. I stay in for the PAT (missed) and then go right back for Kick Coverage. They fumble, we recover... right back to regular O. We drive, score and I sit for the 2-pt attempt (Failed). Kick coverage again. End of quarter. I played all but one play. Lots of fun.

This week we are on a bye. Next week we play the Hitmen at home. The Hitmen lost to the team we just beat 36-0. Should be a fun game.

i was counting on Huth as defense, and for offense its going to be Adam.

Huth put on a clinic for the Wolfpack and Adam never stopped out there. He earned it when forced the fumble on our first kick off and lit up the KR on the seconde one.

I will apply those tonight hopefully!! LOL....

Well, it's been an interesting bye week...

The NIFL Championship is all but gift wrapped for the Rock County Gladiators.

The Wolverines, the team that we beat 29-21 a few weeks back (and the only team that gave us any compition), withdrew from the league for rule violations.

During the bye week, the Wolverines played and whooped up on the Hitmen (whos owner/head coach is also the league Commish). However, during the game, the Head Coach/Owner of the Wolverines, whips his weiner out and pisses on the field. He promtly gets ejected from the game. Since he no longer can coach, he goes up to the press box. However, the is a league rule that anybody that gets ejected from a game cannot go to the press box. The Owner/HC/League Commish goes up there to tell him he can't be in the press box where the Owner/Head Coach of the Wolverines threatens him with "You better get the **** away from me you honky!" And since this is in the press box, it gets over heard by the announcers microphone and is broadcasted to the entire stadium (and is also subsequently recorded). Now just for those that might not really understance the significance of this, the League Commish is white and the Owner/Head Coach of the Wolverines is black. Personally, I don't mind being called a honky (and would probably just snicker if someone actually thought they were hurting me by calling me that), but lets imagine a reverse situation where its a white person saying "You better get the **** away from me you ni*ger!" to a black person. Jessy Jackson and Al Sharpton would have crawled out of their brothels to condem this. Instead, the Wolverines withdrew from the league before they could be kicked out.

All this meant that the next best team after us, is the Illinois Seahawks, who we beat earlier in the year 44-12 and who just happened to be coming into town for a game just this past saturday...

Rock County Gladiators and the Illinois Seahawks are probably the two best teams in the Northern Indiana Football League.

You want a statement game? You thought the 30-0 stomping of the Wolf Pack (who the Seahawks beat last week) was a statement?

Once again, we had one TD called back on a BS penalty, but I'm not going to gripe.

OK, I take that back. I'm going to gripe. However, I won't be griping about bad penalties or missed oppertunities. I'm gunna vent about our offensive coordinator for a bit. Imagine this, you're up 50-0 on a team you've absolutely smeared into the ground all afternoon, it's your ball and your on their 8. There is 9 seconds left in the game. What play do you call? WAIT!!! We have a timeout left, maybe we should use it to make sure we get the right play called. The bastard was still trying to score when we were up 50-0 with 9 seconds left in the game!!! What a *****!!!
Halfway through the third quater, when we realized that we had made all the right adjustments to their adjustments, the defense started to sit there guys and put in subs... and they still had a shut out to play for!!! The Offense... well the O-cordinators left in all the staters and was going no-huddle, reverses and long bombs the entire time when there was nothing to score for! What a greedy selfish *****!!

Anyway... going in we were 3-0. This victory made us 4-0. Next saturday was going to be the Wolverine game, but since they are no longer in the league, we get a forfiet for 5-0. We have clinched the NIFL North title.

This week we were susposed to play the Chicago Wolverines, but with them being kicked out of the league, we scrambled to find an opponent on short notice. We got the Milwaukee Venom, a triple A team from the Ironman Football League (A very solid and good league of established AAA football teams). The Venom played and lost to the Roscoe Rush 17-14. If you recall, we played the Rush almost two months ago and lost 38-6. We gage most of our opponents with how they played the Rush (who are 11-1 and 8-1 in the IFL) if they played them.

Anyway, the Venom finshed the regular season 4-5 and were knocked out of the IFL playoff early, so they had a date open.

Trick play ignites Gladiators' victory

BELOIT-Ben McDonald sounded the wakeup call that sparked the Rock County Gladiators to a come-from-behind 21-12 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Venom in nonconference semipro football Saturday.

"We came out very slow," Gladiators' player-coach Carter Linneman said. "We were listless."

The Gladiators were trailing the Venom, a Triple A team in the Ironman Football League, 12-0 in the second-quarter when McDonald faked a punt and gained 12 yards for a first down.

"That woke the players up," Linneman said.

Shaken from the doldrums, McDonald caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Danny Roberts and Scott Stluka returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown to give the Gladiators a 14-12 lead at the half.

The Gladiators' defense intercepted four passes in the second half to shut the door on the Venom. Tobias Tyler added an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the final outcome.

"I was impressed with the way our guys stuck together as a team," Linneman said. "The defense played their hearts out.''

The Gladiators (8-3) will travel to Lake Station, Ind., this Saturday for a 7 p.m. game against the Northwestern Indiana Hitmen.

Exellent! Nice that you were able to rustle up another opponent, and of coorse even cooler that you then handed them their heads.

And I love the fact that the newspaper actually sends a reporter to cover these minor league games. Very cool. Wouldn't happen everywhere, I can assure you.
