Had practice on Wednesday. I had my pads for the first time.

FUN! FUN! FUN!

The first drill we did was a hitting drill where all the players lineup in 2 lines opposite each other. I just picked some guy out who didn't have a partner. You face each other touching helmets. When the coach blows the whistle, you hit right shoulders then alternate with each whistle blow. Turns out the guy I picked is a bit off his rocker and went hog wild with this hitting as hard as he could each time. I figured "what the hell" and did the same thing. After about 10-15 hits, the coach stops blowing his whistle and starts yelling at everybody. "Don't just tap you pussies! Watch these two!" and of course he points out me and this crazy guy. I hadn't hit in 14 years and coach is pointing me out as an example... great.

Anyway, the next drill we did was to lay down in a circle with our heads towards the middle and the O coach would drop a ball to one of his guys and the d coach would call out a defensive players name and then the two would get up and smash in the middle. D coach was being nice to me I think. He call out a DB when I got the ball. I must outweight the guy be 50-60 pounds. I hit him so hard I don't think he was on the ground by the time I was through the other side of the circle. Felt good. If all DB at this level are like him... watch out if I get the ball in the open field!!!

Game next saturday and the intensity is picking up. I hope not too much more, cause I'm at about my max already.

4 hours practice today. I am out of shape, but I am also getting better... however, I am still running with the linemen when we run... (Sprinting I can take any one of them, but o the conditioning not so much so!!!)

We were short of 22 players again, so I had turns at FB, LOT, NG, DT and DE (I play FB, but was just filling in in those other positions). This is where you can feel the intensity. The guy accross from you doesn't care that your just filling in. So what if your a back filling in a tackle position. They got someone accross from them, they're coming.

I had one good run on a trap play. Made it to about 15 yards before someone hit me. Didn't hit me hard enough. Took him another 5 yards before 2 others guys jumped on the boat and sunk it. Yeah for me!!! I also did a really good job picking up blitzes and pass blocking in general. I paid for it though. My right elbow/forarm is completely black and blue and about twice the size it's susposed to be.

My elbow hurts the worst right now, but my ribs kinda hurt too. Don't know if its from the pile on job they did to me or from the 100 yard ladder that had me sucking wind so bad. My forhead hurts too, but that from the helmet. Still trying to break it in (it might even be a little to small).

I sure do hope I'm working a stationary job tonight!!!

If I had a more regular work schedule, I would consider doing something like this.

The guy accross from you doesn't care that your just filling in. So what if your a back filling in a tackle position. They got someone accross from them, they're coming.

I would think this would serve as additional motivation to the DL. "You put a fill-in opposite me? Ok, then. Buckle your chin strap, buddy."

I played NT in high school. My whole lower arm from my finger to my elbow was one big bruise. All of my fingers were in pretty bad shape.

Doing it again, I certainly would wear more padding. If I had to have fingers capable of firing a pistol, it would have been tough.

Thought about it... but I need them for saturday...

Speaking of saturday... all this work so far and I can't get saturday night off so far. If that happens, I don't know if I'll be able to play.

Not yet anyway. It'll be kinda difficult too. Not only do I need the night off, but my co-worker does as well. Plus there is a girl who playssoftball that night too. That's three right there. I suspose that I can ask a first or second shifter, but who wants to work a double?
