I'm already tired of hearing that this was the biggest upset in NBA history.
Biggest implies that it's a shock that the Warriors beat them.
In the last 11 games between the 2 teams Golden State is 9-2, so it's not that big of a suprise that they won the series.

But isn't it the first time ever that the a number 8 seed has beat a number 1 seed under this format?
I'm not sure I would call it the biggest upset in NBA history, but it sure ranks up there as one of the biggest upsets ever under the current play off system.Keep on Civin'

I think the point is that, although it was the first time a #8 beat a #1 in a 7 game series, in the actual team-team matchup it wasn't as much of an upset. Several sportscasters called this a very hard match for the Mavs, and although I don't recall anyone predicting a Mavs loss, a lot predicted 7 games here.
It's a lot like the Knicks vs Seattle - they were a #8 due to their injuries and whatnot, but they were a much better team than that. The Warriors had IIRC one of the best records in the NBA in the second half. The pre-trade Warriors were an 8 seed (if that) but the post-trade Warriors were a 5 or so if not better.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
