Sometimes I can blow your mind with how right I am.
I'm actually wondering if you're just acting stupid, because I thought this was pretty well-established...

It's true of kids everywhere.
It's established that Canadian kids need a reason to play hockey?
The majority of Canadian kids do not play hockey as youths.
The percentage of youths playing hockey in the 80s in Edmonton was phenomenal -- there was an article on it a while back, as well as the effects as cup wins in American cities and the effects on their youth (eg, Pittsburgh).

And Franzen scores, it's over. I'm not surprised.
Go Dallas!

He's so wrong, on so many levels, it's simply not fair to nit-pik with the details.
So you honestly think having a dynasty team in a region has zero impact on how many kids play hockey in the region?
Or do you honestly think having more kids playing hockey doesn't mean more NHLers are likely to come from the region?
Either way...

The number of kids playing hockey in Edmonton has always been phenomenal.
I'm not sure about a city like Calgary where people apparently need some imports from Ontario to win something to get a passion for hockey.
And the number of kids playing hockey being a minority is bull ****. Organised, maybe, but there's a lot more to hockey than leagues.

The rinks were packed before the Oilers came along. The rinks were packed during the dynasty years. The rinks are packed today, many years after the hey-day.

I find it hilarious that you dismiss the Oilers dynasty in the 80s as a reason for the bumper crop of 70s/80s born Edmonton NHL players, but then seem to make some whacked-out conclusion that it's the "city's fault". You're a world-class idiot.
Let's recall the reason this argument got started -- it was because you were being an idiot for blaming "Calgary" for the unsportsmanlike behaviour at the end of Game 5, and I pointed out they're all Edmonton. Once you got owned there, you turned it into a generic, thoughtless troll about Edmonton being the birthplace of many hockey greats (which it is). The reason is the kids' participation in hockey there is enormous compared to Calgary, and there are many reasons for that ranging from the horrid weather, the only thing of note there is a mall, and -- of course -- the Oilers dynasty of the 80s.
And the number of kids playing hockey being a minority is bull ****. Organised, maybe, but there's a lot more to hockey than leagues.
How many kids playing in cities (not rural areas like the Staals) that make it to the NHL never played organized hockey?

This is a result of there being ****-all to do in Edmonton and weather in Edmonton.
The core reason for there being an abnormal number of Edmonton NHLers is based on how many kids play hockey there. Blame it on Edmonton's blandness (which you seem to be doing), or blame it on the Oilers dynasty in the 80s (which does, statistically and in common sense, impact youth hockey enrollment), but the fact remains when you've got more people playing, you're going to get more people hitting the NHL.
I'll make a parting troll: While kids play hockey in Edmonton, no NHLer wants to. That says it all.

Tsk, tsk. Discuss the posts, not the posters.
Whenever your post is discussed, your squirm and change topics. Read the thread history.
At some point, the poster needs to be reprimanded for such classless activity.

Pretty lame, Dave.
You seem to be backing off your point even before being asked to provide support for your wild claims.
The fact remains, Calgary can't hold the jock strap of the City of Edmonton.
