I get it, Tingkai. You're really upset because the NHL hasn't stepped into the cultural backwaters of China to provide streaming there. I'm not so sure this is a problem we can blame Bettman on. I'm sure airing hockey in a region of poverty with a corrupt government is a top priority of anyone in the top chair of the NHL, right?
Congrats Asher, you managed to get everything wrong. You're thinking like an NHL executive.

The NHL offers a very limited package, (fewer games than Center Ice TV) and is only available in North America, with lots of local blackouts.

MLB and the NFL offers a complete package in and outside of North America, with blackouts in North America only for nationally televised games (ones that North Americans can watch on TV).

MLB even has a complete archive of season games. The NFL offers games from the previous week.

The NHL is way behind on online games, and as a result it is missing out on markets like the 200,000 Canadians in Hong Kong, one of the richest cities in the world, let alone the giant market in the European hockey countries.

It's this type of tunnel vision that is hurting the game.

Other alternative is to get someone in North America to set up a slingbox for ya.
      I saw that, thanks.

I was only able to watch the third period, though (the NHL channel was on TSN for most of the game), but it was better than nothing.

      • I only saw the third and OT too. The Canucks came close to getting a third goal a couple of times. Not looking good for them, but it ain't over yet.

Next season, Centre Ice is online. This was already discussed.

            Doesn't Europe have the NASN?

I'll agree that it'd be nice to put the games online, but there are FAR bigger fish to fry that they should be working on. Getting the 20,000 people in Hong Kong interested in watching hockey isn't high up on the list, and it shouldn't be.

            • Center Ice online is already available. It's just extremely limited and way behind MLB and the NFl

As for the google videos, this is again, very limited. The last game posted for the Leafs was one from December. MLB has a complete archive. Once again, the NHL is missing out on an opportunity to promote the game and to serve fans.

As for NASN, does it provide online game coverage? Or is it like ESPN used to be, offering just two games a week. That pales in comparison to what an online package can provide.

And there are 200,000 Canadians in Hong Kong, not 20,000, and like Canadians back home, many would love to watch hockey.

You talk about far bigger fish to fry, as if creating an online service to market the game globally is some herculean task. In fact, it would take little effort to adjust Center Ice Online to a global platform.

The NHL is just blind to their potential global audience. Europe offers a huge market that the NHL is simply ignoring.

But we all know about the business acumen of the NHL execs so it is no surprise they are blind.

The 20,000 number is my estimate for how many would actually watch. It's pretty generous...

                • When I click the link, the most recent game shown is Dec. 9 with three pages of results.

How many page results do you get?

And can you download games on to your computer?

                        • WOO-HOO! Detroit comes back from 2-0 deficit to beat San Jose 3-2 in OT! Series tied 2-2 going back to the D!

Holmstrom scored their first goal with 5 sec left in the 2nd. Lang tied it up with 33 sec left in the 3rd. Schneider scores the winner off a deflection off the Shark going down to block the shot.

THAT was a series-changer-- With 45 seconds left and the puck in SJ possession in the Detroit end, I thought an empty-netter would seal the deal and put SJ up 3-1 .BUt now??

2-2 so its a 3 game set and Detroit could actually pull this out

                            • I don't think the Wings will pull it off, but I have to give them credit.

In recent seasons, they would collapse after blowing a 2-0 series lead (as they did vs. the Flames), or after falling behind 2-0 in a game where they were outshooting the opposition. This is definitely a different Red Wing team.
