You're out of your mind if you think Iginla's is suspension-worthy. It wasn't even mentioned in the game summary.

    • BTW, I blame Playfair for not being able to control this team. Instead of getting goonish they should be getting goals.

He should've been fired a long, long time ago. The man has no spine, no intelligence, and no career in this league.

You blame Playfair for pretty much everything and have such a hate-on for him that IMHO it clouds your objectivity.

Have I been impressed with Playfair's Flames? Well the answer is "yes" at home and "no" on the road. The Flames have been dominant at home- They didn't just beat teams but often totally owned them . .. In ways that would not happen if they were playing a very poor system.

On the road? They have lost and looked very very bad while doing it for the most part. But since the rink size is identical around the league now, a system cannot account form the difference.

Where I blame Playfair is in his seeming inability to

        1. get a strong effort from all his players on a regular basis and

        2. Overcome the seeming crisis of confidence the team has on the road

        • Let's face facts, Flubber: Most Flames players had career years.

To blame the players with that in mind is ridiculous. Playfair simply hasn't done his job, and to be honest I don't care why he failed -- he simply has failed.

He used the butt-end of the stick. The announcers were talking about that. Mickey Redmond was talking about that in the post-game show. I don't know who NBC had calling the game, but Redmond was a player, so I think he knows something about hockey.

            • I think all of the people who announce games were players/coaches.

Pierre McGuire is 100x more respected than Redmond is.

              • I wasn't too bothered by Iginla's actions; a penalty, sure, but it didn't look particularly vicious or suspension-worthy.

By the by: four assists for St. Nick Lidstrom.

Erm... it seemed to perturb you enough to mention it on your blog...

Ladies and gentlemen, today's game was beyond embarrassing. The play is bad enough -- it was just bad hockey. But towards the end of the game, when it descended into goonery, thuggary, and downright unsportsmanlike behaviour, I was completely ashamed of my team.

                  Langkow's undercut...
                  McLennan's slash...
                  Iginla's butt-end...

Shame on you guys, because you have shamed us all.

Yeah, but not suspension-worthy. Just goonish.

                    Thanks for reading.

                          Two points

                          1. If a player has a "career year" you seem to think its in spite of the coach while any struggles are his fault. In your worldview is the coach ONLY a negative influence

                          2. Name a defensive player that had a "career year"

Kipper??- nope-- Nowhere near as goods as last year
Regehr-- no way-- struggled for most of the first half
Hamrlik-- comes closest-- Best flame d for about 30 games but really struggled down the stretch
Warrener-- gutsy guy but always hurting

Yeller--I love his grit but again hurt a fair bit and only rounded into form again late in the season
Phaneuf-- solid second campaign but I expect far better in the future

                          Freisen? Nilsson? Primeau?
If you agree, I am sure you will blame the alck of defensive career years on the coach and his system while giving players total credit for offensive production.

Don't you see the fallacy in your argument?

Oh and none of this has been to say PLayfair has been great

                          • I think the fact that the offensive players have had career years while defensive players have had career lows is a direct product of inept, imbalanced coaching

I was hoping Playfair would get suspended for sending Noodles out there for the hit.
