Grossman is 6-1. There are plenty of quality starting QBs that height or less, but they're a vanishing breed. And clearly, they're at a disadvantage on the field.

Listen to 670 the Score. Now I' not saying "believe everything you hear on the radio", but they did a show where they had ALOT of people calling in how have seen him outside of football and ALL of them were saying under 6'. Most were saying 5'10 - 5'11.

I've heard the same comments, but the simple fact is that the NFL lists the actual, measured barefoot height of its players.

Rex may play 5-10, but he stands 6-1.

Regardless, he has a hard time with the rush. He will never be a good QB in terms of low inteceptions unless the Bears improve their pass blocking.

But, this presents a problem for a team that relies or would like to rely on the run. If you choose linemen to maximize drive blocking, you will automatically degrade your pass blocking because, from my understanding, the drive blocker is normally smaller and quicker, while the pass blocker is big, slow and impassible.

(though this may be changing with Petrino... the Alex Gibbs system didn't come up with good pass blocking for the Falcons)

Smaller, quicker run blockers are used with the zone blocking scheme (see Denver). But I think normal run blockers are big.

Pass blockers may be big, but aren't necessarily slow - they need to have quick lateral and backwards movement. Also quick hands and long arms - the former to get contact with the rusher before he gets on them, and the latter to keep him at bay. Add great strength - if you can knock the rusher off stride, that'll give your QB a little more precious time.
