You know what, I stand by my original statement earlier this year that Playfair has to go.

I think our team is grossly underperforming and with the moves Sutter is making, he's telling us this is the year. And there's no space for Playfair's rookie mistakes. Playfair's been given plenty of time to turn around the road game, given great amounts of help by Sutter, but he just can't do it.

It's time to bring in a Sutter.

The West

The Oil still remain 6 points out. That is SO tantalizingly close. The bad thing for thr OIl is that they have not closed on a playoff spot. The good thing is that all 3 teams ahead of them are 6 points ahead. They only need one to falter.

The Oil are going on that brutal road trip though.

Colorado is 10 out and really have little/no hope unless they pretty much sweep Calgary in 3 matchups this week. I just don't think they have the team to do it and I think by the end of the 3 Calgary-Colorado matchups, Colorado will be done.

Calgary ?? After a good effort in Buffalo they stunk out the joint in Detroit. With this trade they now have far too much talent to not make the playoffs. I really like the addition of Primeau to give them some size.-- losing Ference adds to their size as well.

While I see teams with a better top 2 defensemen ( Anaheim) is there a team now with a better foursome?? When Warrener is your #5, things are pretty darn good.

On paper, the Flames are a very much improved team-- Lets see if it translates on the ice. They are still great at home/suck on the road . . . so even if they win their next few, we won't know anything ubtil they start on their next road trip

Coyotes trade top scorer Nagy to Stars

Dallas Stars acquired
Phoenix Coyotes leading scorer and left winger
Ladislav Nagy on Monday for a first round draft pick and
Mathias Tjarnqvist.

Nagy, who becomes an unrestricted free agent next northern summer, has been the Coyotes top offensive performer this season with 41 points on eight goals and 33 assists but became available when Phoenix was unable to sign the veteran Slovakian to a long term deal.

"Ladislav brings speed and skill to our hockey club and has proven to be a top-six NHL forward over his career," said Stars general manager Doug Armstrong on the team Web site (www.dallasstars.com). "We look for him to come in and make an immediate impact on our roster."

Now in his seventh NHL season, Nagy has 102 career goals with 169 assists. Tjarnqvist has just one goal and four points in 18 games with Dallas this season.

Upset? No .. I am not emotionally invested in Playfair at all

I also would not be upset if Playfair was actually given a chance here. Sutter lastyear didn't get the team throught the first round of the playoffs .



Now comparing this squad to the 05-06 version, I see a team that is much more talented. So perhaps they should be expecting to run away with the division and even start to contend with the regular season elite. If that is the expectation, I could see their season so far as a disappointment. and although it is the players mainly, it is the coach's role to find a way to motivate the players. . ..


My bottom line is that if PLayfair gets them in the playoffs, that is all that is required there. Its then that the stuff that I really care about begins
