  • The Montreal Canadiens traded defenceman Craig Rivet and a future fifth-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for defenceman Josh Gorges and a first-round pick in this year's draft. Rivet, who was slated to become a free agent this summer, is a 12-year veteran and has played 692 games in a Canadiens uniform. Gorges, 22, is currently playing in his second season. He has a goal and three assists in 47 games this season.

      • A character loss today by the Oil. Fun game, though -- but god damnit, stop giving Minnie easy points.

        • No bounces went the Oil's way. Return of the snake-bite. Losing Smid 10 minutes in didn't help either.

            • He's looking like a pretty solid player. I guess I was wrong about him, the Oilers' coaching made him see much worse than he was.

Imagine Smid and Lupul on teams with good coaching.

Yeah, I read about that. *sigh*

I hope the Russian is worth it.

                • So with five week left, does Kontiki have a lock on winning the fantasy league?

IN coming up with ways for the OIl to bridge the gap and get into the playoffs, it looked like their 5 games head to head with Minny could have been key. They still could but the Oil are pretty much in a position where they need to win all of them. Within 7 points of Calgary is still striking distance but the Flames do have a game in hand and if they convert against Phoenix tonight, the OIl will be looking at a NINE point gap. Still not insurmountable (people mention where San Jose was last year) but it gets less and less likely

We still have the playoffs (Yahoo, not NHL), which can really shake things up. But yeah, my team probably is too good for any of you guys to catch me for the regular season.

It now says you've clinched a playoff spot. Congrats.

amd Edmonton could have and still could pick up someone-- obviously a THornton-calibre player is extremely unlikely but there were and are folks that could help the Oilers.

Besides, the Oil are not as fra back as San Jose was

                              • Gotta love the Flames!!

They looked awful in failing to crush the Coyotes and then turn around with a decisive win against the Sharks after blowing a two goal lead.

Say what you want about the Flames but they are not a low-scoring grinding team any more.

Tonight we get the Coyotes again and I am hoping for a return to the form that led to decicisive victories the first two times we played them. A couple more home wins might seal the Oilers fate .

Oh and the Flames road record isn't funny any more!!
