Ming and rah had moderator powers in the CIV forum when CIV was released. I remember clearly Ming locking Vel's CIV strat thread at 500 posts. Both of them (or maybe just Ming... rah may have only been witness to the Civ II forum parts of the discussion... it's been a while) followed EyesOfNight around, laughing at his antics and telling the rest of the posters that Eyes was a special case who could say anything he wanted.

Sure... we had powers back then. And we followed the orders of the owners.
And Eyes was restricted MANY TIMES... and he served some of the longest bans back in the days... and yes, he was allowed to strut his stuff in the Civ II MP forums, because everybody was. And no, he couldn't say anything he wanted. Most of his antics were allowed only in the Civ II MP forum... and when he tried it outside of that, he was banned.

The ladder invasion of Vel's strat thread was also ignored by Ming, except to say "chill" a couple times IIRC, and close the thread when the epeen waving had hit 500 posts. While that case somewhat more understandable, given a great deal of the infractions may or may not have been seen, it shows why loose moderation (in this case, not staying on top of the discussions) was detrimental to the on-topic community. Vel's Civ III strat thread was what drew me, and many of the most active Civ III on-topicers to the forum. Drawing similar CIV posters, and retention of Civ III posters... vs driving some Civ III posters away and making it difficult for CIV posters to get a sense of the community.

Gee... you seem to forget that I was only one of the mods of the Civ III forum. I guess you should be attacking Solver as well. I notice you blame me for everything and never mention Solver or the other mods of the Civ III forums. I took the job to help them, but spent most of my time in the other forums I had to mod, unlike the primary Civ III mods. And you also are forgetting to mention that people did get restricted for the goings on in Vel's thread...

The release of Civ III was a hotly contested time... the game was considered by many to be seriously flawed. It seemed like the fan boys thought any negative comment about the game was an insult to them. There were some lively discussions, which there deserved to be due to the nature of the problems with the game.

All humans are flawed, all are hypocrites to some extent, Christian, Mormon, Hindu, Atheist, all of us. We're, well, human. There is no such thing as a noble savage. Just as it is no such thing as a perfect Christian, or Atheist for that sake. I for example, I have my faith, I try, but I always in some way fail. I do things, say things, think things, I shouldn't. All I can do is to acknowledge that, and act accordingly. If a person claim to be good, he most probably isn't.

I'm not pointing a finger at anyone, because I don't know who was responsible for the moderation of the on-topic areas concerned.
