It was a fun read and also really interesting, particularly by the fact that I read several books from Ultra-Darwinians and memetism. (Richard Dawkins, D. Denett, S. Blackmore, etc...)

I just finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman, which was a great fantasy novel

I recently found a new guilty pleasure - Eric Flint's 1632 series. Terrible writing, ridiculous characters, but somehow I feel compelled to read it. They're books you can almost skim, going through 'em in a few hours. Brings back memories of the books I read a decade ago (Anne Rice, Harry Turtledove, etc.)...

Just finished reading Sean Haney's illustrated Beowulf (with every facing page being a photo of an ancient relic appropriate to the stanza)... The movie novelization is a very drastic change, in several points, so if you're going to watch the movie please do not expect it to have but the slightest resembance to the original poem. (However, I think the movie novelization is a pretty good story in its own right, and a reasonable modern retelling of it, making it a bit more in line with normal fantasy while still retaining much of what made Beowulf what it was.)
Just bought the new McDevitt novel ... will read that soon.
