I assume I would be devastated by that if I knew who you were.

Anyway, My Wife Hates CIV exhibit B: even assuming that you approve wholeheartedly of what Trump is trying to do, just the response to the Pretti shooting demonstrates spectacular incompetence. We have multiple videos showing that the dude was just waving a cell-phone around, that he was pinned to the ground and disarmed shortly before getting snuffed. What does the administration do? Do they maybe consider what most government agencies do when somebody does an oopsy-murder? Do they say, "obviously we're very concerned and the agent involved has been removed from active duty pending a full investigation," which would give at least the vague impression that they give a damn what the public thinks or whether they are behaving justly? Hell no. Their first response is a bald-faced lie absolutely nobody will believe. This is fantastically stupid! Trump's approval rating, in general and on immigration in particular, is cratering, and they react to this obvious fiasco by trying to brazen it out and hope everybody forgets. In the process establishing the precedent that they will back up their agents in any future cases of gross malfeasance, which makes it much likelier that this will happen AGAIN. He's not owning the libs, he's ****ting his pants onstage.

MWHC will not respond substantively to that, of course. He will deflect by saying it's the loony liberal outrage he's reacting to, or that Obama deported more people anyway, or that it's the left's fault because their TDS got Trump reelected (without ever admitting what specifically the left might be at fault for...), etc. This is why I don't really engage with him beyond hurling invective at him, because nothing's going to make it through and at least that's cathartic for me.

He'll probably be too drunk to even understand it. He might not know what "malfeasance" means while sober. But yelling at you guys was getting old and the incompetence of this was what really jumped out at me. Any polity can elect a complete creep, because ambition is correlated with running for office and with being a creep. It's the part where, out of maybe 150 million eligible Americans, the process settled on someone this unequivocally and continuously inept. That bugs me more, somehow. Not that I would prefer to have a competent despot, mind you, but ... oh, whatever.

During his first term, he took professional advice on building his cabinet; he didn't like what that cabinet was telling him, even as they tried to do what he wanted within the bounds of reason. This time, he just picked whoever he and his friends wanted...
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Worse, I think, he picked whoever was left. He alienated everyone professional and competent in the Republican party, so all that remains are shameless sycophants (who have no principles and will tell him whatever he wants to hear) and perverted fascists (who feed his worst impulses).

Honestly, the recordings of his cabinet meetings remind me of that one single episode of The Celebrity Apprentice I watched.

I presume the contestants were probably more qualified?

                Never watched it. Ever.
