Some of you act like tariffs are a new concept, coined by the USA.
It's not new and it's not peculiar to solely Republicans. It's just good business sense.

Personally, I would tax hell out of American companies manufactured off -shore.

I think we should have tariffs for each reply here at Poly. This would attract more posters

Trump's own numbers are predicated on 10% inflation rate.

I've searched in vain for any economist that advocates anything like what Trump is doing. This is a far more obvious and stupid own goal than Brexit or any prior notorious own goals I can recall. What colossal stupidity. The worst of it is that there's one place this stupidity *can* be found as precedent. That's Trump's own self-publication in 1987 spending $100,000 spewing this absurd tripe. I can't find a full text copy outside of a pay-wall but there's indirect links.

                    it is ironic though.

the US was the one to finally take down globalization

after USSR ended the patriarchs of the global hierarchates ORDERED: capitalism without borders

we said f you of course but we knew we were on a disadvantage

and now US beaten sxurries like a DOOOG in front of china to raise protectionist barriers.

Idf yuo can't play the game, don;t start it

the world is upisde down, a capitalist wants protections and a communist (china) free markets

Apple's share price is down 20% due to the tariff mess. So they are relenting and shifting their production from China back to the US.

No wait, sorry, I meant India. They are moving it to India.

Highlights one of the many flaws in Trump's plan: Just because you won't buy from China or Vietnam, doesn't mean American made is the next best option.

Probably is. Trump will let him know when the tariffs are coming off, so they can buy back stock at the bottom. Then they get their tax breaks. Everyone else suffers. It's all a scam.

Only because he was looking like a moron and he didn't like that.
He wanted a bounce in the Stock Market so he can continue claiming he's brilliant.
                              He's such a narcissist

Unfortunately, that level of narcissism even more frequently leads to people eventually learning to lie to themselves so convincingly that they can escape from recognizing when reality makes them look bad simply by not accepting it as true. I'm sure Trump needed some of that to get himself into this absurd trade war disaster in the first place. I have a terrible feeling that the day is not far off when Trump no longer blinks in these confrontations but instead retreats into a reality where the awful consequences of his stupidty can't reach him, either because the bad facts are wrong or because they are only temporary setbacks on the road to more greatness.

I was a little surprised that he blinked even to shore up his ego and narcissism.
