I was relieved to hear that Lindt are going to export from Europe to Canada rather than continue to export from US factories to Canada. So the net cost of those reciprocal tariffs is that the US loses jobs, Canada has mildly more expensive (but now made in Europe so probably higher quality) chocolate, and Europe takes a small hit on costs but increases production / jobs in Europe.
Lindt to supply chocolate to Canada from Europe to sidestep tariff hit
ZURICH (Reuters) - Swiss chocolate maker Lindt & Spruengli will supply chocolate to Canada made in Europe to avoid Canadian tariffs imposed to counter the higher U.S. customs duties imposed by President Donald Trump.
President Trump announced new 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada would take effect from Tuesday, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying Ottawa would respond with immediate 25% tariffs.

Even the smaller, disorganised boycotts that are taking place are going to have a huge impact (and I'm not even including Canada in that where it is been marvellously orchestrated, Doug Ford's reciprocal 25% export tariff on electricity was already on my fantasy list of retaliatory economic measures - for essential, inelastic products, any import tariff is matched by an equal export tariff - especially on goods like oil, potash, etc, where establishing new supply chains in short time is just not possible). Erratic and unstable behaviour is anathema for a steady market and growing economy. And has Musk has been frantically ripping blocks out of the Jenga tower that is the US state with a possibility of very real material pain being felt by US citizens, it's a powder keg situation. And as I say, I'm sorry for those about to suffer, and I would realistically say, die, and in numbers. But...you forced our collective hand. None of us wanted to be here. None of us expected to be here a short two months ago.Originally posted by Bereta_Eder View PostYou heard it here firstSpeaking of Erith:

Seems Trumps tariffs include 10% tariffs on uninhabited islands, and a US military base. lol
Trump imposed tariffs on the uninhabited Heard and McDonald Islands in the sub-Antarctic Indian Ocean, Axios noted.
The 10 percent levy was also imposed on the British Indian Ocean Territory, which only counts U.S. and U.K. service members as its inhabitants at the Diego Garcia base.

Trump is calling this discounted reciprocal tariffs
He's proposing a rate roughly half of what other countries charge our products.
and the world whines
f these countries
they drop their rates on our stuff and Trump drops his rates, we already have reciprocal 10% rates with a number of countries

your link says China's rate is higher than the USA
'As of early 2025, China’s average tariff on U.S. exports is approximately 22.6%, covering about 63% of U.S. goods (up from 8% before the U.S.-China trade war began in 2018).' grok
This doesn't include other trade barriers employed to limit foreign competition.

OMFG. China is at 2.3% vs 1.5%, EU at 1.4% vs 1.5%, etc. That clearly justifies a 10% baseline tariff plus additional metrics. It's bogus is the point you are missing..Originally posted by Berzerker View Postyour link says China's rate is higher than the USA

If you want to know how they are actually calculating it, consult this, from the Office of the President:
For the Presidential actions taken pursuant to his authority under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, see below.
It clearly indicates it is based on trade deficits and nothing to do with tariffs levied by other countries. One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
