For me a defining characteristic of communism as practiced is the lack of democratic selection of government, which leads to autocracy. Socialism, on the other hand, while similar in economic philosophy tends in practice towards a greater degree of democracy, and hence dilution of power.

If anything the Republicans seem to be the less democratic of the two parties, so in that way they're more akin to communism than the Democrats. Having said that, the Democrats tend more towards the greatest good for the greatest number of people, so in that way they're more communist.

Trump is posting his opinion about everything on his social media account. Which would be fine, as everyone is entitled to opinions.

But I'm suspicious that he's a secret columnist!

Actually, Aeson's right: the Intel thing is really a bit more fashy than commie IMO. Awful idea other way, of course.

Sure, but--and I know this rhetorical move is overused, but I really think it's applicable here--imagine the Republican response to any Democrat president doing this. Republicans have no principles left. They are completely in thrall to a petty, vengeful, narcissistic demagogue.

Concur. At this point the GOP's agenda is pretty well whatever DT says it is. Though, just for the sake of diversifying the discourse, I would like to note that the GOP has definitely moved waaaaaay away from any free-market commitments it might once have had. Hence the tariffs and weird deals to keep jobs in America, etc. "Marxist" now refers more frequently to a weird school of philosophical criticism than to anything related to economics.

Oh hey look Trump is coming to take your guns away!

Senior Justice Department officials are weighing proposals to limit transgender people’s right to possess firearms, according to two officials familiar with the internal discussions.

Which counties have cities with the most homicides? Cook County, the largest county in the Chicago metropolitan area, had 805 homicides — the most in the nation. The second highest total was Los Angeles County in the Los Angeles,California metro area, with 659 homicides.
New Orleans, Louisiana, had higher murder rates in its home county than any other major city.

Los Angeles and Cook counties are the most populous counties in the country, doofus. Of course there will be more murders there than anywhere else. Doesn't mean the crime rate is particularly high, which you can tell because Cook County and Los Angeles County are 25th and 60th on the list on that page. There's also a bit of an apples to oranges comparison going on, because most of that table is listing things by counties, but DC and Baltimore at 3rd (and a few others) are just the cities, which means it doesn't include the suburban areas around the city proper that would lower the average when compared to other counties that contain large cities.

Bexar County had 218 homicides? That's twice as many as the whole of the Netherlands which has a population of 16 million people. WTF is happening down in San Antonio? Better send the National Guard in to sort it out.
