There immediately followed a 3 year US embargo on Turkey but not on Greece despite Realpolitik schemer Kissinger insisting that the relationship with Turkey was vastly more valuable than with Greece. The invasion was despicable. It was not the fault of the US.

The US was not in charge in Greece. The US turned a blind eye to non communist governments but it did not have a way to enforce orders on the junta.

When did the Turkish government ask for permission from anyone in the US government or military to invade Cyprus? The US has never recognized the TRNC as an independent state. Wouldn't that be step one to giving permission to invade and control?

First/second/third world are, historically, Cold War terms, referring respectively to the US and its allies, the USSR and its allies, and countries not allied with either of those two blocs (which tended to be poorer, developing countries, which is where the current meaning comes from).
