unless on the way back I can take the bus and just sleep through the night,

But yeah distances are huge and plane tickets are very cheap
You get a better view the Canadian side of the falls.

I drove Toronto to (near) New York City. It's not that bad a trip. Just takes a while. Countryside alongside is beautiful and you'd miss it on a plane.

Amtrak (The rail system) has some decent coverage in the Northeast US and the price is reasonable. You might want to take a look at that and see if it would cover some of your destinations. Busses in the U.S. are not the greatest of options but can do in a pinch. They are very cheap but you can get some very "interesting" people on a bus here.

Yes... trains are far superior to buses if if can work with your schedule. It might cost a little more, but it's worth it and more comfortable.

You also get to see the US when traveling by train, while you don't get to see much in the air.

Plus, airports are basically security hell in the US. Strongly recommend using some kind of airtag if checking bags.

Air tags are tracking devices. People put them on things in case they lose them (like keys), some people put them on things in case they get stolen (like bikes or vehicles), etc.
