Last year (which was way hotter compared tonow here) we had a forest fire far outside the city - couldn't see any smoke, but one day we had the distinct smell of it around for hours.

Is that why Germans are obsessed with visiting deserts when they travel abroad?

Dunno...but I was in a desert once...
