  • Is this the future of steak?

A meat product grown in a lab has been cleared for human consumption for the first time.

The US safety agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has given approval for cell-cultured chicken, after doing a "careful evaluation".

It has been made in steel tanks by the firm Upside Foods, using cells harvested from live animals.

It will be able to be sold to consumers after an inspection by the US Department of Agriculture.

The FDA said it used data and information provided by the company to reach its decision, and had "no further questions at this time".

The firm's founder and chief executive Uma Valeti said: "We started Upside amid a world full of sceptics, and today, we've made history again as the first company to receive a 'No Questions Letter' from the FDA for cultivated meat."

If cell-cultured chicken works why not try out steak cells...

that would help cut down on factory farming and environmental damage

Salmonella, gristle, bones, the weird chewy skin, all that stringy crap, the fact that it's easy to under or over cook. Quality vegan chicken tastes way better IMO.

So.eone only bough low quality chicken. BTW there is no such thing as vegan chicken. Just a bunch of made up crap to try to fill the desires of vegans for the real thing. Most of that imitation fake meat is heavily processed crap which is worse for the environment and worse for your health than just eating the real thing as evolution designed you to do.

Of course there's such a thing as vegan chicken or you wouldn't have so many bad things to say about it. I didn't say it was healthy, though how bad it is varies widely, I said I preferred it over chicken, if it's quality at least. And no, we didn't evolve to eat chicken & don't pretend it's good for you either.

Evolution only cares about keeping one alive long enough to breed. After that, your health no longer matters.

The point is it is not chicken and so it is just a misleading label to try to satisfy u happy vegans who desperately want to get some facsimile of real meat because they are unhappy with their unnatural diet. The funny part is it is worse for the environment and worse for consumers plus more expensive all while tasting worse.

To each their own though. Oh, and, yes, humans did evolve to eat meat including birds. Fact.

Not entirely true as an animal that produces more offspring who survive to themselves reproduce e still have an advantage. So an adult who dies with just one child who grows to adulthood is disfavored by an adult who has eight survive to adulthood. All else being equal, of course.
