  • Actually, I'm feeling optimistic about Trump's tenure vis a vis Ukraine, for several reasons.

First, as evidenced by his relationship with Kim, even if he "likes" someone, if he doesn't get what he wants, he will walk away and never look back, as what happened during the "peace talks" he tried to broker between North and South Korea (he cut negotiations short and left Kim at the table). Given what he's said about his Ukraine peace plans, one can easily see Putin reacting badly, with Trump responding in kind.

Second, Russian state media apparently aired nude photos of Melania on television while reporting Trump's re-election.

    ...so yeah, there's that.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

    • Trump kisses up to those who are more powerful than him.

We can hope he has other people to kiss up to than Putin, who wants different things than Putin.

Yeah, I read something along the lines that if Trump wants peace now it would collide with Putin's aim to get all of Ukraine, at a time when Vlad feels he could make small gains indefinately if he just burns through manpower forevah, regardless if it costs lives of Ukranians, Russians, North Koreans or whoever on the planet.

Also, a complete loss of Ukraine would then fall on Trump, which he probably doesn't like, since it's not "winning"

However, Trump is Trump, so we have to wait and see what approach he's taking.

        • Remember Congress will probably force some sort of aid to Ukraine.

            • It's happening...

More mainstream podcasters with very large audiences are beginning to interview people about the truth about Ukraine, and the US in general.đź‘Ť

Mo Gawdat just does podcasts about Health and Wellness, so I didn't follow him for his politics - though when Gabor MatĂ© ripped Israel a new one on his podcast, I was pleasantly surprised. Now he's got Jeffrey Sachs doing an exposĂ©... đźđź‘Ť

I've not listened to his stuff in months and now I realise he's done an entire miniseries on this stuff.

The wheels are falling off the US lie machine - the dam is bursting...

First was the genocide and now Trump. The world is turning its back on America.

Wake up and smell the coffee, you morons... đź…

Your definition of 'literally all' makes me seriously wonder what they call an education there in Wales.
The Ukrainians are being obliterated by being held in place (as I explained would happen). Russia is in no hurry to take back a tiny tract of farmland while it can stretch Ukrainian forces on badly exposed territory and bomb the living **** out of them (again, as I said and explained why).

In the east you're clearly not paying any attention because Russian gains started to accelerate exponentially month on month ever since Kursk. Ukraine is essentially in retreat in southern Donbas as they repeatedly get outflanked and encircled - because they have no reserves to prevent that from happening (as I said months ago).

I also said Russia would mop up around Pokrovsk and not attacking directly as the threat of attack forces Ukraine to defend Pokrovsk in depth - as I said months ago. That is exactly what Russia is doing.

So Russia is steamrolling the Ukrainian industrial heartlands at it's own pace, mainly because by doing so it can shred the **** out of Ukrainian forces with its massive artillery superiority and gigantic glide bombs...

That's attrition, you morons, as I spelled it out to you on multiple occasions...

Anyway all my posts are there predicting all of this.

Oh, he certainly originally tried for all of Ukraine and his ultimate goal is to be at geographic choke points west of Ukraine. Ukraine is not Russia's final goal; it is just on the way to its final goal.

If the war is about keeping the NATO line away from Moscow, wouldn't Putin need to take at least half of the country to accomplish his goal?

I guess that is why he denied Ukranian statehood to justify the aggression, and why his underlings still fantasize about Ukraine not existing anymore.

Like ex-pres Medvedev, quoted by TASS, the state-owned news agency of Russia, which refers to him making such statements in his official gov role as "Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council"

                            • Russian ballet star Vladimir Shklyarov dies after falling from building

Vladimir Shklyarov, a world-renowned Russian ballet star, has died after falling from the fifth floor of a building on Saturday.

His death was confirmed by the Mariinsky Theater, a venue in the city of St. Petersburg where Shklyarov was the highest-ranking dancer.

“This is a huge loss for the entire Mariinsky Theater team,” it said.

While Russian authorities have launched an investigation into Shklyarov’s death, the “preliminary cause” has been judged an accident, Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti reported.

“He died a natural death. It’s not a crime,” a source in the emergency services told RIA Novosti.

                              . . .

In the days after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Shklyarov was quoted as speaking out in support of peace.

“I am against the war in Ukraine! I am for the people, for a peaceful sky above our heads!” he was quoted as saying in a Facebook post by Alexei Ratmansky, a Russian-Ukrainian former ballet dancer.

                                Putin's afraid of ballet dancers.

                            • The 3-day war has hit the 1000-day-mark

Next Feb it will be 3 years, if Donnie doesn't manage to do peace in 24hrs (I guess we need to wait for inauguration +1 on this).

Biden has authorized long-range strikes inside Russia, but it seems for now there are still some restrictions. No idea if they remain.

After much navel-gazing in the early stage of the war German support has grown substantially, and the country is the second largest supporter of Ukraine in absolute numbers.

Which politicians here like to stress when they want to show how great they're doing, but per capita lotsa smaller states do much more.

I do think Scholz is wrong to still deny offensive long-range capabilities to Ukraine.

It was even worse to see him implying France and Britain doing that months ago would mean they become participants in the war - supplying weapons to a country under outside attack does not make you a part of the war, despite what the Kremlin sez.

Scholz will probably lose the february elections, for a variety of reasons, most unrelated to Ukraine tho.

As Ukraine is losing ground, there's lots of talk in the west about support "as long as it takes", but at this point it remains to be seen how long that really is.
