According to my search it appears there hasn't been a CanPol thread at Poly in almost ten years. Do we have enough Cdn posters left to make it worthwhile? Let's find out.

The Conservative leadership campaign is officially started and the contenders are lining up.

The timeline, entrance fee and other aspects of the rules governing the ongoing Conservative leadership race play a significant role in shaping the contest.

Poilievre has to be considered the early favorite with Charest the obvious "not Poilievre" candidate.

    Thoughts?

Last I heard Asher was moving from Toronto back to Alberta. That was years ago and I could be wrong.

From a Cdn perspective they do a decent job. Much more accurate than US news media.

Note: The topic posted is just a suggestion. Any CanPol stuff can go here (I was tired of sifting through the general Politics thread).

Yeah, Canada and US trucking companies comprise almost 100% of my clients. My knowledge in that area is lacking and in need of Dinner's wisdom.

Trivia - Hoseheads are a dwindling demographic. They had their glory in the 70's and 80's.

Whoever wins will never become PM and be kicked out. Whoever comes in second, will form a new breakaway separatist party.

I realize we already have two competing western separatist parties and one Quebec separatist parties (all founded by disgruntled conservatives), and the misnamed Peoples Party (founded by the second place finisher from two leadership races ago).
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

I think it is clear that putting back together the pieces from the 90's schism was merely a paper-over fix. I suspect they are about to split again.

They can't win without a leader from the PC branch of the party but such a leader cannot actually lead the Reform majority base of the party. Poilievre is likely to appeal to the base but to most Canadians he will be seen as Harper without the charisma (sarcasm).
