the leverage has increased, not only are Ukrainians dying for Joe Biden other people are flocking to the war and days before Putin invaded Kamala went over there and applauded Zelensky's request for Nato membership. Poke poke poke, we told Georgia they could join Nato too back in 2008 and they got invaded for pushing for membership. It took our coup in Ukraine and 8 years of war against ethnic Russians in the east to get this result. Sending Nazis to spearhead that attack was grinding salt into the wound.
This was intentional, the west - the USA - over threw the Ukrainian govt because the guy in charge wouldn't burn bridges to Russia. Regarding the Maidan massacre, the EU investigated what happened and their conclusion was leaked - the snipers were shooting at cops and protesters. Thats why so many cops were killed, the snipers shoot at them and they think the crowd is firing and they shoot back. Even protesters said the sniper fire was coming from Maidan controlled buildings. There is a ton of evidence backing that scenario.

I thought the consensus was the Maidan massacre was the result of cops shooting protesters but according to this snipers shot at cops to provoke them into firing on protesters. And the snipers were shooting at protesters too, they wanted mayhem and they got it.

It's worth noting that the legality of the Maidan stuff is on par with that of the American or French Revolutions, not to mention others. They were all illegal vs. the previous order. That's the nature of these things.
Ukraine did not only have a "coup", it had democratic elections since 2014, which confirm the pro-western course. If anything support - and so legitimacy - of the post-2014 developments has been rising, to a good deal due to Putins actions over the last 8 years.

the people protesting the coup did not make that decision based on the alleged legitimacy of future elections they couldn't even vote in because they were under attack by Nazis and frankly I dont trust western assessments of fair elections, the west was pouring billions into Ukraine to bribe people and pay for the war.
