Apparently you are among those lackeys, as you never once mentioned this alleged genocide.
The Minsk agreement was a gift to Ukraine by Russia to resolve this crisis peacefully and keep Donbass within Ukraine, but with wide autonomy. They have spit on it, licked their wounds and replied with a genocide.

And now their capital is encircled after two days of fighting vs. the REAL Russian army, not the phantom one, the one they have been victorious over in their news for all those years, since 2014!
Finita la comedia!
An ironic end for a country of bloody clowns ruled by a professional clown!

I've never seen someone take so much pride in beating on a weaker neighbour. Russians are very sad people."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

They have deceived us in 80's. We have trusted they want to be our friends and honestly wanted to join the "happy family of the "free" Western Nations".
But that was only a lie.
And since the moment we have abandoned Communism the West have pillaged Russia, stole dozens of trillions of USD and did its best to completely subjugate Russia.
But our weakness couldn't last forever.
Now we are back and you will suffer for all your crimes!

So, what's up now?
Imagine a Canadian enclave populated by a four millions of Canadians who have been systematically slain by the armed forces of neighboring country for an EIGHT YAERS!
For how long would Canada have tolerate that?
Two days?
Your (Western) lackeys have tested our patiance for 8 YEARS!!!
Now it's time to collect the stones! PERIOD!

Who ever said Ukraine had the best army in Europe? I heard they barely had a functioning army in 2014, which is how the Russians walked in and took Crimea, and they've been playing desperate catch-up ever since. Now, I have heard claims that Ukraine will turn into an ungovernable quagmire, which I totally believe; it's not like invading Iraq was the hard part, after all.

To answer your hypothetical - If the Americans were locked in a conflict with American breakaway states that contained large numbers of Canadians (I'm not sure how that would be possible since they would likely have US citizenship) I wouldn't be advocating an invasion to liberate American citizens. Accepting refugees would be the more likely outcome.
More broadly, I'd have to wonder how we ever possibly got to that sort of relationship with the US. You see, unlike Russia, the US isn't in the habit of attacking their "friends".
