According to Republicans you can vote. All you have to do is show up at a polling station and show your BLM merch and you can votes as many times as you want.

Apologies in advance if they are wrong on this.

I think it might be Canada that gives BLM protesters extra votes and licenses to destroy things.

Truck convoys just get trouble with the police and have their GoFundMe money confiscated.

The truck drivers should have burnt down a few cities first. BLM had the good sense to burn some cities and Trudeau said nothing. The truck drivers raised funds and Trudeau asked for their money to be confiscated.

The money wasn't "confiscated". At last word GoFundMe was returning the money to the donors.

A class action lawsuit ($9.8M) has been filed against the organisers to "confiscate" money they may have. This was filed by a citizens group in Ottawa, not by Trudeau.

BLM - Are you seriously perturbed by the idea that a Canadian PM wouldn't offer commentary on US social unrest?

I am seeing articles saying that GoFundMe will not pass on $9 million to the truckers and will instead donate it to other charities. I read that GoFundMe has placed the onus on donors to request a refund. It thus seems misleading to say that "GoFundMe are refunding the money".

I also read that Trudeau and the Canadian Police had some involvement in getting GoFundMe to not give funds to truckers. I am not sure if that is true or how much influence (if any) they actually placed on GoFundMe.

I have seen nothing that credibly suggests the truckers are doing anything other than protesting peacefully. I have heard nothing of riots, no tales of looting, no tales of damage and no fighting. I hear that the middle of Ottawa is clogged up hindering vehicular movement. It sounds like a large protest by ordinary people.

As for right wing involvement I see nothing that suggests this is a right wing event. A picture of a Confederate flag means nothing when large crowds are involved. I am assuming they are a bunch of ordinary people protesting with a few loons in attendance. (I think "lockdown fatigue" is a setting in for a lot of people)

I am strongly in favour of vaccination. I have had my shots and urge everybody else to do the same. I still see this as just a demonstration. A large and inconvenient demonstration but a demonstration. I fear the day when peaceful demonstrations are not allowed more than I fear people demonstrating against things I support.

Easy now. GoFundMe has changed their position at least twice a day for the last couple days. Don't blame me for their shifting positions. What you "read" was their second last public position.

The Police had an effect on the decision as they provided evidence to GoFundMe that the terms of service of their site were being violated. Trudeau does not direct in any way the City of Ottawa Police.

If you have heard no evidence of them doing anything wrong then you simply aren't looking orlistening.

If you organize a protest and the racists show up it is incumbent upon you to ask them to leave. Otherwise they are part of your protest. Recent polling has shown the right wing nature of the group. I'll look for and post it if you so desire.

A demonstration is when people show up and make their position clear THEN GO HOME. An occupation is when you show up and decide to stay. Perhaps air horns blowing at over 100 decibels day and night in your neighbourhood would help you understand the harm being done.

Your Google skills need some work.

"Due to donor feedback, we are simplifying the process and automatically refunding donations," said GoFundMe in a statement. The crowdfunding company had initially asked that all donors send a request for a refund in the next two weeks.

Google can also help you find your missing information on what the occupiers have been up to.

GoFundMe has changed their position following a backlash.

I am not seeing reports of violence on any scale. There appear to be only a handful of right wing extremists hanging around. The opposition who have over 100 members in Parliament are reported to be courting the protesters and the Canadian Conservative party do not sound like right wing extremists.

It is reported that many residents of Ottawa are fed up with protesters, the noise, horn honking and gridlock of the streets. It is also reported that some residents support the prptesters, Overall it sounds like a peaceful but very annoying and lengthy protest.

I support vaccination and wish these people would all go home however they do not sound like violent lunatics and I do not believe it is a right wing conspiracy. I really have no idea how this will be resolved.

That is what I am seeing reported. I forget who I looked up however I recall it included a couple of articles from the Guardian.

GoFundMe - Their motive is irrelevant. The issue at hand was the outdated position that you cited. The money is not being "confiscated".

Violence - I'll post a link about the local situation at the bottom of the post.

Conservatives and extremism - This could be a thread by itself but I'll provide a brief CanPol primer: Our Conservatives are going down the same path that US Republicans went down with the base becoming ever more extreme and a leadership no longer able to contain or actually "lead" them anymore. It is all about catering to them despite knowing better. This has caused a rift in the party as evidenced this week by them knifing the leader (O'Toole - a moderate) and installing an interim leader (Bergen - a Trumpite). This shift to the right is costing them dearly at the polls and helps explain why Trudeau has beaten three Conservative contenders in a row. The right wing base is getting angrier as it dawns on them that they can no longer win at the polls. Echoes of January 6 in the US. In short, no, the Cons aren't all in on crazy yet but they are going that way. Some (like me) are appalled at what has happened to what used to be a serious party. I'll post the poll numbers on the protest support referred to earlier at the bottom.

You will always find people "in support" of things, no matter how stupid the cause (welcome to the age of the internet). The overwhelming consensus from Ottawa residents is that this occupation must end (again, see the article).

Define "violence" and "lunatics". I consider assault to be violence and asking for things that can't be provided (see below) is lunacy. I never claimed this was a right wing "conspiracy". I said it was a right wing protest.

As to how it will be resolved - That is the so called million dollar question. Trudeau is simply unable to meet any of their demands with the exception of the border vaccine mandate as it isn't in his control to do the things they want - Mask mandates and other restrictions are all provincial jurisdiction and the decisions are made by the Premiers. Even were he to lift the border mandate the EXACT SAME mandate exists on the US side meaning unvaxxed Canadian truckers still cannot cross.

Foreign reports - I can understand you seeing incomplete or inaccurate news items (for instance Fox's coverage has been hilariously inaccurate). I doubt many international news agencies have dedicated Canadian bureaus.

I will finish by pointing out that Canadian (and US) trucking companies and drivers are my clients. I deal with them every day and I can tell you this is not a protest supported by the trucking community. I describe it as a protest of "right wingers with trucks". The vast majority of truckers are vaccinated and doing their jobs. The supply chain is fine and the country is carrying on mostly as usual with the exception of downtown Ottawa and a scattering of temporary protests sprouting up elsewhere.

Police Chief Peter Sloly says he does not have enough resources to end the turbulent protests launched in the nation's capital more than a week ago — nor can he say when they might wrap up.

The impression I get is that there is not much violence in Ottawa and maybe 2 out of 3 against the protesters and 1 out of 3 supportive. That is all. It is hard to be sure what is really happening in a far away place with so much nonsense flying around on the internet. Unfortunately although increasing information available, the internet has also increased misinformation, disinformation, low quality information and outright bulldust.

I have lost interest in the matter.

Never mind what is happening in the Canadian capital, I can't get a bead on what is happening in our own capital.

The protesters aren't roaming the streets in bands assaulting all they find but there is a faction that is just plain anti-social. For example, people have been assaulted for wearing masks as the extremes see this as a direct affront to their cause. Minority groups are also victims to this far right element.

You also have to consider the "rights" of the citizenry that are being denied by this protest. I'll presume you have heard a truck horn before - Imagine a horn blast lasting 30 seconds, then imagine dozens of these simultaneous horn blasts in a few block radius, then consider that this is going on all day and night. Add to this the fact that these people can't go to work because the roads are all blocked. They can't go shopping as their stores are all closed. They can't order stuff for delivery as again, the roads are blocked. They are prisoners in their own homes with a Noriega noise torture device going on around them. What about their rights? Their freedom?

I think I said that this protest appears to be very disruptive to the city of Ottawa and very annoying for much of the citizenry. You seem to be in agreement with that assessment. (honking horns, closed streets and grid lock making it hard to conveniently travel in the city centre)

I also said this "protest" has been going on for a rather long time with no end in sight. No solution seems apparent so nobody how it will be brought to an end. We seem to be agreement on that too.

I can not see that it is a violent protest or least it lacks organised violence.. I accept your point that there are some anti-social elements. It seems no more violent than protests held in our cities for things like vacinnation and BLM.(I live in a big city and we have anti-social elements. There are probably people having punch ups in the CBD every day) We appear to have different perceptions of the level of violence.

I am not seeing swastikas and Confederate flags and right wing loons in the news. It sounds very much like a mob of boofheads having a long protest. We appear not to agree on this.

Outside of his inability to either control Manchin/Sinema and/or successfully reach across the aisle, I think Biden is doing fine. In fact, I don't think he's getting adequate credit for the things that are getting done. The economy is going gangbusters, unemployment is down to a stunning 4.0%, and we're actually going to see some federal infrastructure projects, which will maintain the record pace of job creation. There's also been significant progress in repairing fences with most of our allies, honoring treaties, and addressing climate change. No new wars, so that's of the good.

I did not vote in the poll, as there is no reason to judge any VP's job status. Harris remains alive and available to step in, so I guess she's doing OK.

Well, obviously, it's a pretty complex equation. It kind of boils down to "running the government" vs. "seizing power." The GOP's fact-free media conducts a nonstop blitz of misinformation and outright lies, demonizing the Dems as socialists, and distracting attention away from Trump's ongoing attempts to overthrow American democracy. Meanwhile, Biden does his job, provides occasional press hits, and literally goes on the road, old school style, to promote his programs (infrastructure, etc) by visiting those who will benefit. Trumpists are always up in your grille, while Biden lets you get on with your life.
