on a serious note I think merkel was there how much? 50 years? not even putin was that much as the little "mommy".

all in all neutral opinion, tending to positive. I think she made other people relaxed, hey look she is a sweet faced little middle aged woman and then BAM, she stole their trousers.

Fortunately there was a shortage of giant mushrooms during WW2 , or the results may have been much different.

Hopefully, they won't get sued by Nintendo.

Big suspense this sunday. I'm still alternating between a couple of possibilities...oh decisions, decisions.

The completely unnecessary Canadian election is over, and a few (less than 10 out of 338) recounts are happening. Even though about 40 seats changed members, the results are almost identical to 2 years ago. The Liberals had 157 seats in 2019 and ended up with 158 seats. The Conservatives went down 3 seats from 122 to 119. The Bloc Quebecois went up 2 seats from 31 to 33. The New Democrats went up one seat from 24 to 25. The Greens went from 3 to 2 seats. And the one Independent elected in 2019 did not seek re-election.

Over half a billion dollars, and completely useless and unnecessary.

First exit poll too close to call. Fact: whoever wins, it's not Merkel who's not running anymore.

                  Merkel was good

I just hope the dumb greens don't manage to keep closing down nuclear power plants.

In the Canadian election, I didn't mention the Liberals have maintained their corrupt ways. At the dissolution of the last parliament, there were 2 'independent' Liberals, who had been kicked out of the party caucus for corruption, but continued to sit, and be paid, and vote with the Liberals. With the election count just over, one elected Liberal has been told he cannot sit in caucus because of a past criminal case against him, one elected Liberal has been caught on video stealing an opponent's campaign literature from a mailbox (federal crime), and one elected Liberal has been accused of 'property flipping', which isn't a crime in the province he was elected in, but against Liberal party policy.

So, they might have elected 156 'caucus' Liberals, and 3 'independent' Liberals. We will see!

German officers were always calling their men "dumkopf" so I learnt that meant stupid.

The Japanese were always shouting "BANZAI" and charging into battle.

All Italians were called Mario and a group of Italians was referred to as "a mob of Marios".

The British were Pommy Bastards but decent chaps who could put up a good fight against the common enemy.

Yanks were not really not much use and a danger to themselves.

All officers, in all armies, were stupid.
Lets guess ... you read "Die Sturmtruppen" by Bonvi

I had never heard of Die Sturmtruppen until I read this comment so I looked it up. The war comics I read as a child made war look very unenjoyable but it was necessary to defend the world from Nazi, real Nazis .

Ah ... I can definitely recommend Die Sturmtruppen ... it also is Anti War, but in a much more funny way

Have to say, I never voted for her, but - certain issues aside - she did overall a good job.

Otoh I think 4x4 yrs is just too long, regardless who's running. While the system here is set up differently than the US one - which means a chancellor has per se less executive power than a US pres - I think having a sensible limit, like 3times max. would be better.

Well, you don't vote for chancellor, so I'll believe you ;-p

Yeah, I agree that 4 terms is too much.

Dunno ... when Trump came to powerr, I found her to be the right person in the right office .... to serve as a counterweight to him (or, as some newspapers called her ... to serve as the löeader of the free world )

I don't dare to imagine what would have been if Scholz or Laschet had been Chancellor during the time that Trump was PotUS in the USA

Doesn't Trump have a couple of billion in loans from Deutsche Bank coming due? Can he cancel them when they swear him in as President of Germany? Has he sent Rudy to Berlin to challenge the results yet?
