Should the US have cut oil supplies to Japan?

A lot of assumptions. Watch a piece on the Manhattan Project. Its a monster. Takes more shields than the Pyramids. Let that sink in. The notion that you couldn't be doing what you are doing if the US didn't embargo Japan is a huge reach. Consider, a lot of folks from the US went to fight Japan. A lot died, lost to their family, their kids. Or they never had kids who could have kids that could move to the Philippines and sit on their balcony and enjoy. Its better to avoid war when possible.

But WWII was happening already. It could not be avoided. Imperial Japan started war with many nations. As did Nazi Germany. They had an agreement to split the old world between them. Then they would turn to the new. They were not going to stop unless someone stopped them.

At first other nations tried appeasement, and that failed spectacularly. We tried isolationism and it failed spectacularly. You can't appease or ignore genocidal maniacs bent on world domination.

Helping stop both was one of the great accomplishments of our nation and the Allies. All the WWII vets I knew, and their families, were proud of the sacrifices made in that effort. As they should be.

As for nukes, you've already agreed Imperial Japan would have gotten them eventually. That means a worse outcome than we have now.

Cutting off the oil was the correct decision, especially after the Massacre in Nanjing. Otherwise the US is condoning a war of aggression and a holocaust through its trading partnership with Japan.

As far as the CCP goes, they have their own structural issues and shouldn't be worried about as a boogeyman. The thinking goes that as China rises, the US falls. Not true.

The CCP is wasting their economic gains that took place under Deng Xiaopeng's reforms. The government owns shares in the biggest companies. Corruption is a drag on the economy. Teachers are afraid to do actual teaching since they have to stick to a strict, government-approved curriculum. Rumors about the government seizing private property in order to raise money abound. Land ownership rights are a cornerstone of capitalism. If you own your own property, you have a greater incentive to improve it. Citizens are afraid to speak up because of a soft digital Cultural Revolution. The country is squandering its gains and is on borrowed time.

CCP's military has made huge improvement, but lacks offensive firepower. China has typically only expanded within its own sphere anyway. There's absolutely zero chance of it threatening any US ally.

The US has its own problems. It needs to solidify its transition to new leadership and squash the virus.

The problem with Americans is they all go looking for a fight. You don't go looking for trouble because trouble comes looking.

Nothing the US does will affect China's direction in the long term. It's an alien culture to Americans and the only way to beat China is with other Chinese. Even the Mongols had to do it that way.

The best we can do is honor our DEFENSIVE agreements and protect our allies and stop messing around in other people's business. Trump already sold out Hong Kong so we can't even help people when they ask for it.

If you were so knights in shining armor, then you would have declared war over Hirohito in 1937 or over Hitler in 1939.

But, those were Japan and Nazi Germany who had declared war on you, not vice versa!!!

You simply had no choice, but to join the Allies.
