Over the past week, the nation has suffered a 20 percent increase in new diagnosed cases, a 13 percent rise in hospitalizations and an 11 percent rise in daily deaths.

And Trump last night was still saying that the pandemic was “ending anyway.”
Americans are dying, and his followers keep believing this crap...

I don't believe that, even in the best of times, Americans would ever have tolerated an extended lockdown. Individual liberty is simply too large a component in our collective identity. In Trumpworld, of course, this has been cranked up to eleven, the same as everything else, but I don't think it's helpful to fixate on Trump himself. Trump is a symptom of a broader social ailment which will not go away whenever he does. I have modest hopes that it might quiet down a little without a troll in the WH, but our current situation has been decades in the making and has a momentum independent of the poor stupid ape who happens to be riding it.
