How did everyone come to Poly, anyway?
My older brothers played Civ and Civ2 in the 90s, and I followed along because, well, that's what I did back then. I was not aware of any online community at the time, but I played a buuuuunch of Civ2.
Then in high school I met this guy--a friend of a friend--and we got to talking about the upcoming Civ3. He told me about this cool new site where you could get all the latest info and rumors, so I checked it out. There was some weird problem with my registration and I could only lurk for the first couple weeks. Eventually that got worked out and I posted this very excited thread. Which got spammed to hell by Blake, ixnay, and others (and me) until MTG closed it, banned me for a week, and gave me a 100% PCR back when that was still a thing.
But I came back and kept up with the buzz. Played a buuuuunch of Civ3, and when I was tired of that I started to browse other parts of Poly, including the OT. And somehow slowly but inevitably I started to see this place as my home on the internet. And I haven't been able to leave for more than a few months at a time since.
