A perfect compromise would be to remove 1/3 of a statue, let 1/3 stand, and put the rest into a museum

True - there might be different cases though, for example when tasked to read/write 'bout it in school or so (unless ppl get a choice). Just saying. But yeah, I agree with your point re literature.

As for removing statues/swastikas etc - I'm certainly not launching a "Save our Swastikas" movement for those bells. I just can't sometimes help the feeling that we have become very good at merely symbolic action (tho I realize it's a bit unfair).

#1 - The civilized thing to do would be to remove the statues, but at the local level. There are still a few Stalin and Lenin statues in public squares in the old Eastern Block.

#2 - Hopefully Zuni runes and Buddhist temples won't have their hooked cross symbols chipped away.

#3 - Keep literature as it is, but use it as a teaching tool. I recently reread 'The Sun Also Rises' by Hemingway, written in the 1930s. There is a description of a boxing match between an Austrian and a [person of African descent], where the PoV character strongly favours the [person of African decent]. The Austrian loses, and the crowd nearly riots. The 'n' word is used 23 times, over two pages in the edition I read, but never used pejoratively.

      I really hope so ... otherwise you're a Nazi!

This thread is too confusing. So many sentences and facts.

I initially thought this thread was about having all of us change our avatars...

You need to change yours. You have had that one a long time. Time to evolve.

Things that don't evolve die. Except alligators and squirrels; they are perfect creatures. Although I do not see myself changing my new avatar for a very long time. It was a Demonic Gift.

Uncle Sparky’s avatar is also a demonic gift.

I used a profile pic as my avatar for about 10 years, so this one will go for a while...
