It is easy to not put all too much thrust into justice in the USA ...
if you are wealthy you can get away with a lot of things (for which poorer people would have been put into prison) ... being white is an added bonus.

My wife and I settled on The Accountant (Ben Affleck) as our NYE movie tonight. Not exactly a celebratory vibe (we usually go comedy, romance, or heist/caper flick), but actually pretty good. Very different from - and imho better than - what I expected.
