    What really is online "decorum".

I must admit I stared at this comment which I saw in the Moderator Thread. Perhaps because decorum is such an outlandish concept on the OT.

Yet I expect we all observe some sort of decorum in real life, such as common courtesy.

    What are your thoughts?

How about complaints from La Famiglia?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

"decorum" = "if you wouldn't say it to somebody's face, then don't post it at them online"

This still means that people who are terrible in real life will be terrible when they're online, but that's what bans and/or the ignore feature are for. Also ideally the forums would come equipped with a breathalyzer that would prevent you from posting if you had been drinking too much and had previously shown that you were a mean drunk - I suspect that at least 90% of our bans result from drunkposting.

I usually don't say things to people's face that I say online. For example, if I see someone with a "Smash Patriarchy" shirt on I usually don't call them a fake Swedish feminist.

I wonder what you would say to me if you met me in person and I had a MAGA hat on.

Nothing. Most of the Trump supporters I've met IRL aren't loathsome. You, on the other hand, were loathsome long before you were a Trump supporter.

Whenever I hear the term MAGA in connection with Trump, I have to think of nigerian scammerrs

In Nigeria the tearm Maga seems to be the slang for "sugardaddy" and is in much use among the scammers.
If you ever followed the eMail conversations of Scambusters with Scammers (after the scammers are tricked into revealing themselves (believing the other person is a scammer as well) you will find the term "Maga" used quite often )

(I definitely recommend 419 Eater if you want to read some of the conversations of scambusters with scammers ... they are quite funny ... especially when it comes to the things the scambusters can have scammers do, in their hope that they can elicit some money out of their assumed victim )

MAGA is definitely not a scam, that's why Trump has so many enemies. They will lie, cheat and do whatever they can to keep America from becoming great again.

I usually let my kids browse here and report to me on anything "naughty" Kid has said that might get him banned.

Trumps history (both, in business as well as in his job aas POTUS) always lets me think of a snakeoil peddler.

Just think of his "Trump University" which resulted in a lawsuit by lots of students who argue that they were vctims of a scam.
But also the fact that Trump is rather eager with attributing things, that were still an effect of the Obama administration, to himself.
For example the (positive) job statistics in January, or the job inveestment by exxon mobil (the decision for which was made years before Trump came into power)

At the moment I only have seen lots of promises by Trump ... but no positive results in economy or american society that actually can be attributed to Trumps gvernment
