When did Gandhi say be was bearing a sword? Or is this question of yours just another red herring? The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty…we will be remembered in spite of ourselves… The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the last generation… We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.

The God the Christians worship supposedly told his followers to kill people (even infants and the aged). Is Christianity also "uniquely repugnant and unreformable because of this?"Originally posted by Dinner View Post
This boils down to "but, but, but... Believers have in the past not followed their religion." While that is true it also completely misses the point. Yes, there is a very real material difference between a religion where god supposedly told his followers to kill people and go on killing people and ones which explicitly say not to do that. Islam is uniquely repugnant and unreformable because of this. The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. Interesting. That whole Ten Commandments thing isn't important to Christians, then? Those who espouse it aren't real Christians?Originally posted by Dinner View Post
No. Most of them do not. Fact.
Thus why Christians do not follow old testiment commands like not eating pork or not wearing clothing of mixed fibers, etc... The heart of Christianity is the teachings of Christ and the old testiment is seen as background information by most Christian groups.

Jesus didn't say his followers would be victims of violence. He said that he came to "send a... sword." Now, you can interpret that how you will, but the idea that Islam uses violent imagery and Christianity does not is a misconception. God tells his followers to kill babies.Originally posted by Berzerker View Post
Jesus said his movement would bring violence upon his followers, he didn't tell them to be violent... And if "even Jesus used violent imagery" is your idea, who are you comparing him to? Thats what "even" means, in addition to... You said:
You were even blaming Jesus for the violence because he warned his followers they will be the victims of it. Yet you're comparing him to Muhammad who repeatedly endorsed doing violence to others. If MLK told his followers they will have dogs and water cannons turned on them, would you accuse MLK of using violent imagery?

Strawman argument.Originally posted by Kidicious View PostHacking the Bible as an argument for atheism is the ultimate twaddle.
Noone said that people should "convert" to Atheism.
The bible passages were just taken to counter the claims that christianity is (in contrast to islam) a religion of peace.
The bible contains lots of passages that in the past have been taken, are currently taken (by certain christian groups) and probably also in the future will be taken to incite violence against other groups (be it of a different religion, a different sexual orientation, or a differnt colour of skin)
(I linked an article in a previous posting, where several american christian pastors are cited who not only are totally O.K., with the Orlando shooting, but evven expressed regret, that not more gays have been killed by it)
History has proven that christianity, if taught byy preachers with the wrong mindset (and left with too much influence on politics and be allowed to gain too much fanaticism in thhe general population), can be as dangerous as IslamismTamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

This is just lies. First, you are lying about your motivation. It isn't to "convert" us to anti-Christian (I said atheist, but there isn't any difference). It's to defend a violent religion, Islam. And second, yes you ARE hacking the Bible. So you are hacking the Bible, which promotes non-violence and condemns violence, to defend a religion that promote violence, oppression and tyranny.Originally posted by Proteus_MST View Post
