I have heard this from Aussie tourists who visited Russia. Stunned by the friendly and hospitable attitude of Russians. For example one was dining in a cafe alone and was invited to join a family of Russians who were also dining in the cafe. They were complete strangers but so welcoming and friendly.

The assault rifles were provided by Russian soldiers with whom we were drinking that night at wagon-restaurant. Geoff was really a star back then. Everybody wanted to talk to him. So, trust me - we are friendly as nobody else, as long as you are a friend.
