German government trying to force children to go to mosque
Being taken on an afternoon trip to another religions church isn't brainwashing. It's a good way to strip away the nonsense that bigoted and ignorant parents might be pouring into kids ears, by showing them something with their own eyes. If the field trip had included a seminar in beheading and a lecture about the infinite wisdom of sacrificing your life for Allah and exterminating the infidels, then you might have had a point. I'm assuming this was not included however.
Honestly, it is a really good idea.
Considering Europe, there should be trips to churches too.

In the UK they do (or did when I was at school anyway) trips to places like the big cathedrals sometimes. Judging by the big grounds of kids you see in them still, I imagine they still do.
Gee... I had no problem with my kids visiting other churches or hearing about other religions.
You want to stop kids from seeing and learning about other religions.
If they are visiting such places for purely academic purposes, I don't see a problem with it.
I am an hard headed atheist, but I think people should visit these buildings. I visited a mosque while in Morocco and loved the architecture. I was obviously not there for religious reasons. I also visited Cathedrals in Spain and Italy (Milan has a beautiful one). Again to admire the history and architecture.

So who's the bigot.
No one is being a bigot. But you're being something else. I've already made it clear that I'm not against children learning about other religions. Even if I were that would not make me a bigot. You really should stop using that would until you learn how to use it and not make a fool out of yourself.
I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

So... Kids are going to a mosque to learn about a different religion. No one is being brainwashed. So what is the point of this thread again?

I'm a little torn on this one. While I'd like to say that parents should be able to opt their kids out of a field trip, if they just did a class on Islam and tolerence, the parents would probably never know so wouldn't object, so maybe they shouldn't be able to opt out.
I do think that school officials are kind of acting like Dicks for being so adamant. Religion can be kind of a sensitive and personal topic and should be treated accordingly.
That being said, I think the parents are closed minded douches for arguing
In a letter addressed to the school, the father reportedly argued: "For years we have been hearing reports about religiously-motivated violence connected with Islamic people."
Just a dumb reason.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

In Germany, there is violence correlated with neonazis who purport to be Christians. So the reason the parents use is piss poor.
