Lots of fuzz being made about this - anybody who cares/wants to get it/already has?

Here's a trailer (PS version tho, but available for PC too)

IMO it sounds all fascinating, some parts remind me of Elite, and the scale/size of it must be frigging huuuge. Just some gfx look a tad too toyish for my taste (the space stuff looks epic from what I've seen, some other parts, like some of the aliens, look a bit silly IMO), but I could live with it if the game overall is cool...maybe someth. for xmas

I think I saw this on Steam getting released on Aug 12th. $59.99 is always too much for to buy a game. Notice I did wait on Doom and bought it for $29.99. This game looks cool but I think I will wait for a sale.

Nice atmosphere and space combat is always fun.

I've been playing it now for a couple of days on my PS4. It is not entierly what I believed it to be when I pre-ordered the game. However, during my short time with the game I have come to love it for what it actually is. It is super-hard to explain in text, but it is some sort of meta-experience of life and the universe when you start to think about the vastness of it all. I love the exploration of new planets, I play it in smaller chunks, an hour here, an hour there so it won't feel that repetetive.

For anyone that are interested in picking this game up, I'd recommend watching some streams or gameplay-videos so to get a better understanding of what type of game this actually is

Played a load yesterday, its lovely. The inventory issue is a pain in the ass, and I can see there being a point where it starts to feel repetitive but for now its lovely. I hope they add the base building soon, I think I'd be happy having a home base and just travelling around neighbouring systems a bit.

Same here ... it seems to be definitely my type of game, but 60 € is definitely above the scope I would pay for a game (well, exception, Elite: Dangerous ... but there I bought the option that includes all future Addons, so it was worth the money) ... if a sale comes around where the game is available for 40€ or less, I will happily buy it

Yeah. I did that for Just Cause 3 and Doom... Bought them for $29.99 a piece. Saved myself $60. I just waited a month or two. Tomb Raider was the same deal.

By the way, if you guys like space games... Check out Rebel Galaxy. It is a bit the same... But is broadside combat which is different than what you see in No Man's Sky. I am unsure if it is on console. It is on Steam for just $19.99. Great game.

Thanks for the tip, haven't heard of it before, but added Rebel Galaxy to my steam wishlist - will buy it eventually. Not much time for gaming until Christmas most likely... and from what I can see quickly, will buy it before NMS. Will get NMS eventually as well, but this may be a year or two, after they build it up a bit.

May pick this up Friday, if I can schedule time to actually play it. But I did read somewhere that they do have plans on adding more features.

I wonder if buying a PS4 is better than keep upgrading the PC which as time goes by gets harder and harder to justify

I upgrade my PC simply because it's better than a console. You can't really upgrade a console like you can a PC... but that's just me.

They are supposed to be adding lots of things including base building. I played more yesterday and started to feel a bit of repetition, there are a LOT of randomly generated points of interest on each planet, but because there's so many you see the same things over and over. I'd actually prefer it if they were a lot more rare, so finding a settlement or ruin was something more exciting. I think tonight I'll do a bit more flying between new planets to see more different terrain types and species.

It's a two way street though, the main benefit of console gaming is that after your initial investment you know you can play every title that comes out at its full potential (although the manufacturers have just watered that down somewhat with their upgraded console version strategy). You'll never have a time on console where a new title is released but you can't play it unless you buy an expensive new graphics card for instance. Personally I'm all PC for strategy and survival games, but action adventure/FPS/sports its easier on console IMHO.

Unless a new console comes out and they stop making games for your old one. And PCs having the chance to upgrade hardware, have a better potential of better games coming out. FPS and third person is way better on PC from what I have encountered in my opinion. And you don't need to buy the most expensive graphics card. NVidias 970 is more than enough for the latest games and doesn't cost an arm and leg like the 1080.

Console games are overpriced anyways and seem quited dated. Consoles out now are several years old. Dated, overpriced and graphics look way better on PC anyways. Just look at Tomb Raider, which I have played on both.

It's not quite that simple. For the first couple of years of a consoles lifecycle developers are still learning to unlock the full potential of the architecture. It's the reason why you usually see a significant improvement in the quality of console games over the life of the console. There certainly comes a point where new PCs can walk all over the console, but the number of PC owners who upgrade that often is actually pretty low. For most people they're playing PC games on fairly old machines on reduced settings, so the quality level is usually fairly even with consoles after even 5 years of its life.

The FPS PC vs Console debate is a very old one and there's no easy answer there. I used to always prefer PC for FPS but over time it just became much easier for me personally to play them on console. It's pretty much just a personal choice thing though. Same with action and adventure games, I'm much happier just picking up a game pad for something like The Witcher or GTA, but for some people not having a mouse and keyboard is a deal breaker. Different strokes for different folks. The only area for me where it becomes a genuine better/worse deal is with games with complex interfaces or control schemes. Strategy on console is awful IMHO and the idea of trying to play something like DOTA on console sounds horrible to me.

You may be right about certain aspects, but more are upgrading their computers for a far lower cost. I just upgraded the processor and motherboard for $170 and that is considered upper mid range. Prices are plummeting for parts (SSD prices have the most pronounced drop). Meanwhile consoles are still more dated than even older PCs and still charge an arm and leg for games. I could also argue quality wise PC games are definitely ahead.

But hey I will even admit I had fun on a PS4. It isn't horrible. It is good. I just prefer computer. I will be getting the new old Nintendo mini classic I think they call it. It will have 30 or so nostaglic games... But that's a different subject. Might even get the NX when that comes out. I did grow up playing both PCs and consoles, but was always preferring computers. Still, both can be great fun.

Also one other note... I need to look for my SNES and Sega Genesis. Collector items. Too bad Saturn basically destroyed Sega... Who knows what they would be releasing now.
