I found that Walt Hickey is pretty spot on with this theory: take your least favorite character from any movie and replace the actor with John C. Reilly; new favorite character!

I've seen Jumper. He's not good in that either, I'll admit. I think the role people talk about him being decent in is Life as a House.

          yes
          he has incredible range

cast as a teenage angsty future Darth Vader

and in Life as a House, cast as a "misanthropic teenage son"

          such actor
          much oscar

I'm not arguing that Hayden is a good actor, only that the primary reason the prequels were awful was Lucas, not one bad actor. There were other, better actors who also gave ****ty performances in the prequels, which suggests maybe it's because they had ****ty direction and dialogue.

there was a lot of bad to go around

just to be clear, you are settling on "decent actor" versus "good actor"?

I'm not settling; I've been there all along...

                  okay
because it sounds like you are

if we're talking straight up black and white binary answer, is he good or bad?, what do you say?

He's a bad actor, but I honestly can't imagine how you could come to the conclusion I was arguing he was a good one. In every post where I mention him, I've said, "He's not good, but I've heard that sometimes he's not awful."

This is a phenomenally dumb argument. I think I'm going to take a nap now.

i think this flew off the rails when you said the prequels weren't bad because of acting and that he's a decent actor

                        Actually I believe he said

Saying that the acting was bad but the writing, directing and plot were worse.

                            But you're probably high.
