Come on, it's a widely known information... So, without USA first invading Iraq, and then dismissing these commanders, ISIS wouldn't have been winning as much, if at all (you need a momentum and victories to start recruiting cannon fodder). It's easy to brainwash some cannon fodder into ISIS. Educated high-ranked military commanders with a live combat experience (even if they lost a war) are completely different beast.

I recall reading some years ago that former Iraqi army soldiers were joining various militia, and any one who could give them a job. They were simply tossed out of the army without pensions. Many became poor and needed to live.

Later, ISIS came along. ISIS needed troops. ISIS had money. Plenty of unemployed soldiers in need of a job.

          Therefore ...................

So what should have been done with them?? They were irreconcilable. What kind of job can a person who has ordered the beheading of a prostitute do? Garbage collector? The only place for them is in prison, or dead.

You posted a wiki article. Don't take credit for the Russian's work.

If we would have given those monsters authority they would have abused it. The only way we could maintain peace in Iraq was with a troop surge. Before the surge the police we murdering people by the thousands. What do you think Baathists would have done?

Oh come one, they're just officers who would have worked in their previous position in your faraway colony. You even employed a former Nazi general as a Commander-in-Chief of NATO Land Forces in Central Europe. I'm sure it's a much more sensitive position than an officer in a no-mans-land - after all, he would have commanded entire NATO land attack or defence against conventional USSR forces in Europe in case of a war. If you trust a high-ranked Nazi to defend entire Europe, surely you can trust some noname officers on a throwaway posts a little bit?

But hey, i get it, Nazi is Nazi, Fascism is also a Capitalist ideology, just like a Democracy, so it's totally fine. Now, Iraq officers who were taught by Communists can't be trusted even for a little bit.
