    C-3PO called R2-D2 a "he", I'm guessing C-3PO would know

How does C-3PO know that he himself is a he? And he may be assuming just like everyone else.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

R2D2 "plugs in" to various other machines and injects his "code". Obviously he's the male connection.

          R2D2 getting an erection.

What the heck is masculine programming? It talks like a machine, looks like a machine. To say it's masculine is kind of sexist. What, it's more logical. Just insane.
And saying the gripper arm is the equivalent of a penis is like saying that every time men shake hands they're penis wrestling.

But the saddest thing about all of this, is that there actually is a Wookieepedia

I guess George Lucas assumes that alien species and robots would have the same gender roles as humans

I think most SciFi Series (including Star Wars. Star Trek, BSG, Babylon 5 and many more) do so, at least for any intelligent species that get encountered.

Species with more than 2 sexes (and their roles), or asexually reproducing species are something that almost never is included in SciFi ... hell, even the Borg in Star Trek had gender roles, with the workers/soldiers being almost every time males who were lead by a single female Borg queen (with the obvious exception of Anica Hansen / 7 of 9, who seemed to have been the only female Borg besides the queen )
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

Assigning gender to aliens is one thing, assigning gender to a robot is stupid. One might just as well assign a gender to a toaster.

                    Exactly.

I do have no problem assigning a gender pronoun for ease of referencing. But that's about it.

What's wrong with assigning gender to a toaster?

There is an entire class of languages that assign gender to everything!

                          a) I'd hit it
                          b) It's still not actually female even if its slot makes my toast pop up.

                            Furrin languages don't actually count.

As a nod to kuciclan, I prefer to refer to all robots as cisgendered.

Actually it is so humanlike that not even the best scientist of the fleet was able to create a detector that would be able to distinguish the human cylons from humans.

So, what makes the robot and what the human if a robot has the same components /setup as a human, has feelings like a human, can learn like a human and the only thing distinguishing it from a human (aside from being created in a vat) are infertility and a few additional capabilities (like, for example, instant communication with other models of its type or the capability of getting uploaded to a resurrection ship after death, so its knowledge can be transferred into another body)
