How do you get money for stuff like food, shelter, internet, computers, etc? I ask because I know somebody else with the same philosophy about work, but he's on disability after a psych discharge from the Marines and I doubt that you fit into that category.

Engineer professional other comes closest I guess. 3% chance. Too bad, I guess. The trick is to automate my job while still getting paid to do it.

Programming is following a similar trend - I've gone from notepad and a command line compiler to Eclipse, an integrated debugger, and APIs whose interfaces I can google rather than having to guess at. And I'd rather dig ditches than program with punch cards.

Ground based programming is very inefficient.

The job I was doing until last month will be 95% automated within 10 years. The reason it's not more automated right now is that (old) people tend to be reluctant on technology.

The job I'm doing right now, very low probability.

I had a three month contract with a company that compiled and distributed phone books - it wasn't profitable, and the only reason it still existed was because it was the subsidiary of a large conglomerate that just hadn't gotten around to dissolving it (I doubt they'd be able to sell it). Every week or two the manager would have a team meeting and say "so how should we make this company profitable" and every time all of the employees would say "we should stop distributing paper phone books and just put everything online" and the manager would say "I dunno that's a pretty big change, and also old people still use the paper phone books" and the employees would say "**** the old people they can learn how to use a computer like everybody else" and then the manager would decide to do nothing. I think the conglomerate dissolved them a few years later.

(I proposed that they stop paying a fortune for Oracle and move to Postgres, but was told that they were locked into a contract with Oracle, and also that sounds like a lot of work. If your company isn't profitable then doing nothing isn't the way to make it profitable.)

I think they like being able to have someone to blame if somehing happens.

Since, in this case, the 'something' is an exploded/leaking pipeline, they want to make extra sure they have someone to blame.

                                Unbelievable.

No one would ever automate manufacturing jobs mainly held by men. What an idiot.
