Does the Bernie phenomenon signify that America is waking up?
Marcos Taquechel Aug 27, 2015 Politics
“It is not about me, it’s you who decides the future of this country”
The skyrocketing success of Bernie Sanders signifies a political change of heart. Think about it: Bernie in any other time would be an unlikely fringe candidate. He is old, has a bad hairdo, is non-apologetic and is a socialist, the riskiest idea you can throw in the political cooking pot. Yet Bernie is going viral. So, why does he have such a phenomenal surge?
Because in the end Bernie is not Bernie; he is an idea whose time has come.
Sanders’ political position resonates with millions of Americans who want to see real change. Bernie somehow became a catalyst for real change by the masses. He is pushing the buttons of Americans who are sick of being robbed and swindled by a perverse system that increasingly transfers money to the top. This is why the word socialism became comparatively benign. It sure seems irrelevant when we compare it to the absurdity that political, social, and economic life in America has become:
The middle class is being squeezed; wealthy corporations pay no taxes and are hiding our money in a fiscal oasis somewhere in the world; students are not able to pay their loans because they can’t find jobs; hospitals receive “non-profit” status but are for-profit don’t pay taxes and even receive money back from me and you while health care is out of reach for most Americans. Obamacare, which was supposed to solve this problem, is now close to a insurance scam helping to transfer more money to the top further weakening health care as a whole.
The list goes on and on. But this post is not about making a list of problems we already know from our everyday lives. This post is about seizing an opportunity.
While the endless partisan discussions circle around egotistical disputes between Republicans and Democrats, our country is going to hell in a hand basket. People are beyond angry at the stagnant political status quo with seemingly no end. But Sanders is running on the Democratic ticket because we all know in this country there are only two parties that have clout. It’s either one or the other, and he’s certainly not for the other.
While all of this is happening, our government is anemic and has no muscle power or political will to make real changes. Americans see that in every election, no matter what the campaign promises are, everything ends up being more of the same: — money leaving the middle class into the pockets of billionaires. So why could Sanders be different?
It’s simply because he is different. Sanders have a fresh and revolutionary approach to the presidency: he shows an attitude that says “it’s not about me, it’s about you”. He doesn’t use the wishy-washy tactics so many politicians are fond of. They are so afraid to say something that will compromise their path to victory that they end up vacillating between whatever new issues benefit them. Sanders on the other hand is crystal clear about his positions and doesn’t use mud-slinging techniques either. This in turn communicates a clear and fresh message to the American public: there is an authentic and upright presidential candidate.
The surprising support from the billionaires
If you think Bernie Sanders is only a phenomenon of the far left think again. Conservative billionaires are starting to support him too. There is a fear among the billionaire elite that they are creating a caste system that is almost impossible to escape from and that economic inequality is being pushed too far. According to a New York Times article, business leaders such as hedge funder Paul Tudor Jones and Ken Langone, founder of Home Depot, are voicing concern that if the social inequality problem is not addressed, it will lead to major social unrest or oppressive tax hikes, like an 80 percent increase on incomes above $500,000.
Many successful individuals who were once immigrants have greatly benefited from the American way of life such Ken Langone. They see now that the opportunities that were once available to them are no longer in place. They believe in returning some of the wealth they have acquired but haven’t seen the momentum to do so. Bernie Sanders is beginning to appeal to a lot of these billionaires with a conscience they do exist.

Apparently Corbyn will lead the UK to prosperity............
by guaranteeing a long stable Tory reign.

what an insubstantial and shallow article, no wonder you lapped it up!
i shan't bother with the various inaccuracies and skip straight to the central 'missing the whole point' that this article and, to be fair, a lot of commentary on this subject suffers from. before corbyn became a front runner issues like railway renationalisation and people's QE were scarcely ever talked about seriously; they were outside the mainstream of political debate. now lots of people - even ill-informed right-wing blowhards advocating one party rule - are talking and writing about them, discussing them, pointing out their advantages and drawbacks, etc.."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

I have said it many times, I'll say it again.
The bold openings that all of these parties make is a direct result of the collaspe of the USSR.
No nation (apart from the US maybe) even dared treat its people as bad as they try to do now.
When you have 1000 communist nuclear warheads pointing at you, you tend to be careful about what you do to the less fortunate.
That's why all these characters that emerge are the tip of the iceberg.
There is a concrete societal need to halt the pathetic advance of free markets dictatorship and wealth accumulation.
It will continue to seek political vehicles of expression.
