so you spend 13 hours either working or travelling to work. that's more than 1/3 of your life; you won't get that time back. if i were you, i'd seriously consider either moving closer to your work or finding a job closer to where you live.

      1. It's 4 miles from my house to 30th street station.
      2. It's 4.5 miles from Wilmington train station to my job.
3.Amtrak is $58 per day for round trip.

I think that's obvious enough for even me to have known this for years. Maybe one day I'll actually get a phone interview :/

The car option comes calling. Can easily get a used cheap Toyota or something. It'll cut your travel time in half.

Gas and insurance will quickly evaporate the value of the additional time. A monthly transit pass is $160.

It's like you have absolutely no concept of the idea of opportunity cost.

Well, the opportunity cost of his commute time would be posting in poly, so...

Utility of 10 'free' hours a week < (cost of gas + car insurance and maintenance) - cost of transit pass

Oh yeah plus actually buying a car!

It appears that even using Septa the trip from Center City Philly to Wilmington is 45 minutes. So it takes you 1 hr and 15 minutes to go the other 8 miles of your commute?

it's good that you recognise the problem. do you have a plan to resolve it?

Yes. Plus time waiting for the train. You think the train comes exactly when I'm ready for it and out of work?

I get done work at 4 pm. The bus to the train station comes at 4:19 and the train comes at 4:53 to Claymont station.

I find it interesting that you consider your time to be worth so little.

I would at least look at moving closer to the 30th St. station in Philadelphia.

I've been applying to jobs. It is not easy when you went to a state school and aren't an employee referral. Networking matters too much and I don't have any in's. I might need to start cold calling and emailing.
