Ah. I just remember endless arguments back in the day. But hell, I could be mixing you up with Dannubis. Probably am, sorry.

I don't believe women sit down and write out pros and cons before they decide to cheat, or anything like that. But I figure a woman always has to be aware of the unique dangers facing her sex--when she goes out drinking, for example, she has to live with the remote but still-too-real possibility that somebody will slip something in, or just get her too plastered to resist. I have no experience with nonmarital sex and the surrounding culture, so I can only infer from hearsay and deduction. Probably you're right.

EDIT: No, wait, I think it's just your sig. The anti-religious signature is making me inflate my memories of a few arguments, I think. Anyway, sorry for snapping. It's been everybody ***** at Elok for perceived slights to sensitive liberal orthodoxy week here.

SECOND EDIT: Before Dannubis shows up and says What the Hell, let the record state that my last interaction with him was also perfectly pleasant, I just used to argue with him a lot. I think. Possibly I'm developing a persecution complex and this is a sign of incipient schizophrenia. Anyway: I do not seethe with hatred for anyone on this board in particular, with the exception of Mobius, and that's mostly because he'd take it badly if I didn't. I think I'm still in his sig.

Second it has to be readily available for any bozo looking for it, without being taken down by lawyers from AM and/or the government. Third it has to be easily searchable--I don't know if there's any technical barrier to doing Ctrl-F with a file that size, but most people are not even that tech-savvy. Bear in mind this particular group of people were in a sense selected for lack of savvy, insofar as all the ones who are justified in their suspicion married people who gave their real names and financial information to a world-famous provider of socially illicit services. Fourth you have the disincentive factor attached to all illegal info transfers: they're natural vectors for malware. Fifth, this is going to be a temporary thing; unlike, say, naked pictures of Jennifer Lawrence, these bulky-ass files are only going to be interesting enough to propagate so long as they stay in the media. I give it four, five weeks tops. Sixth, the sheer number of flop-sweating adulterers out there practically guarantees that there will be scads of people vigorously scouring the net to take it down. Probably the overwhelming majority will never be caught.

EDIT: Seventh, the info is being released in small clumps by the hackers responsible. The story will likely be old news long before they get around to releasing all the info, let alone by the time someone compiles them into an omnibus.
I don't think that it would be too difficult to disseminate the data in a way to let suspicious spouses search it without needing too much technical prowess, but if they're releasing the data piecemeal then they're probably more interested in embarrassing the company / scaring people away from the site / blackmailing the site's owners than in disseminating the data.

There might be some difficulty ensuring the integrity of the data, come to think of it; with that many records, it would be very simple to toss in additional records, particularly if the version commonly distributed was pared down to names and addresses. And as illegally leaked data, there'd be no central record to compare it to. But I'll take your word for it that it could be done in theory, Loin.

Ideally you'd be able to make the data available via an unscrupulous host - I don't know how to go about doing this, but sites like Silk Road manage to stay up for a long time. That way you'd just need to provide a simple GUI that even I could write without needing to disseminate the data.

Barring that, you could distribute the data via Bittorrent - it's all text and so it should compress well, so say it's a one gigabyte embedded database along with another awful GUI that even I could write (so people don't need to know SQL to query the database). You could provide data integrity by creating a run-of-the-mill website that just provides the file's MD5 checksum or whatever (nothing illegal about hosting a website with a random checksum on it). And pretty much everybody knows how to use Bittorrent at this point because they're all streaming Game of Thrones or Downton Abbey or whatever.

But, if they're releasing the data piecemeal then I don't think they're really interested in disseminating the data. In this case they might not even need to hack the website - just create a bunch of fake data (and include the names of the co-workers who you don't like) and say "hoo boy these are the people using an adultery website!" Even if the site's owners deny it, who would believe them?

The fact that men make up the bulk of participants in dating websites in general, along with many popular dating venues is evidence enough that they're more interested in meeting people for sex than women are. Men have a higher sex drive than women. Not just human males. Males of most mammal species. One can reasonably assume that per pchang's comment about the site employing market techniques to keep the ratio in balance, there's more male interest.

No it isnt, it simply shows that women have a much easier time getting dates than men. If you dont think women are just as likely to be promiscuous as men, you need to learn more about women.

                    BZZZ! WRONG!

                    BZZZ! ALSO WRONG!

As well as being highly sexist! If you said something like they're wired slightly differently, I'd probably give you that, but the number one reason that women are perceived to have a lower sex drive than men is quite literally because of sociosexuality - or the way they've been brought up in a male dominated society...

Get them on their own away from that crap and on their terms, and it's a whole different 'ball game'!

Of course people have differing sex drives, but the same can be said for there being relationships where the man has the lower sex drive than the woman. Apparently I have a stupidly high sex drive (according to all the various surveys etc, obviously I think I'm normal ), but I've only had one relationship where the woman wasn't more than happy to keep up with me.

Personally, I think the average man simply doesn't have a clue how to 'motivate' a woman's sexual desires and then blames it on a 'lower sex drive' when they don't get anywhere...

Can you be more ignorant if you tried...!?

Nope, I could pretty much point to societies where men are literally congratulated for ****ing everything that moves, and for women being labelled as whores and sluts etc for even thinking about doing the same thing, as being the major factor in that supposed imbalance...

Actually, not to mention the fact that men can be such total douchebags in general to women that they can even hound women from sex sites - again, wonder why there's no active women posters on poly...!?

I find myself growing somewhat less liberal as I age, for various reasons. That's probably a good part of it. Thanks for the tech help.

Having a high sex drive doesn't make people more interested in dating, it just makes people masturbate more.

I wouldn't say that men have a higher sex drive, but that men and women have different sex drives. A man goes from zero to sixty in about twenty seconds, and basically all you have to do is turn the key in the ignition. A woman accelerates much more slowly, and you have to baby her engine, but she can apparently reach much higher speeds. If that inane metaphor doesn't work for you, cf. Jerry Seinfeld's comparison to firefighters and fire, respectively.

Anyway, I would expect that to affect their patterns of casual-sex-services consumption, but as a non-consumer of same I will yield to others' superior experience.

I can only assume you mean that a small proportion of men is hooking up with a larger proportion of women. Otherwise this makes little sense as the average number of dates for men and women will, all things being equal, be the same.

Or in other words, there are two women up for a hook up, and two men; but Mobius is pissing on the other guy's chips by having hook ups with both women (probably at the same time). Average number of dates is the same for men and women, but women have an easier chance. This could imply that women are more discerning, whilst Mobius will sleep with anyone.

                                All in good jest....
