Translation: you were completely wrong. Not a mix-up, your entire viewpoint that it is retarded to use the term football for soccer was wrong.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
It amuses me how much you are walking away from this, which was your second post on this thread and tied into your first post's use of "football" as in it was not something that should be used with soccer (as befitting your American exceptionalism viewpoint ):
You should look up the history of "football" to understand how truly retarded it is to use the term to describe soccer.
So that statement is just not correct, right?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

"Usage of the word 'football' to describe soccer is retarded. Soccer was pretty much always called soccer until elitist Brits in the 80's stopped doing it."
The original point stands. I just didn't do a good job of expressing it. That can happen when I post on mobile as I'm pooping at whatever ungodly hour that was. But I am thankful to have an editor in you, Imran... someone who cares enough to help me refine my thoughts.
Shall we move along?

Ok, but that implication is completely wrong. Soccer was slang way to refer to the game (and usually by the upper classes), but Football was the official name of the sport and the more common usage among the lower classes (the majority of fans). Therefore, use of the word football for the kick-and-run sport is completely fine.
Recall it was named "The Football Association" in Britain in 1863 (and has always retained that name). The international body is the Fédération Internationale de Football Association.

Yeah. And then they changed it to "soccer" and it was that way for a hundred years...
... until some elitist Brits wanted to be different from America
with their stupid inferiority complex
WE DIDNT MAKE YOU A PATHETIC SHELL OF YOUR FORMER GLORY
They changed the name of the FA to soccer? I don't recall The Soccer Association existing in the UK...

so I'm right about everything except I mixed up which one got called what first
thanks
so lets review: Soccer was pretty much always called soccer until elitist Brits in the 80's stopped doing it.
Your link, unluckily, doesn't exactly say this. It only mentions that football was also called soccer, and the soccer monicker grew in disuse in the 80s.
Also, real football has been called like that in many other languages since before this, and most of these names come directly from british english, so if the english weren't calling it mainly football in the past, all these other languages would also have picked up another word for the sport.

We can't actually be sure that other languages even exist, okay?
