Because it is more descriptive? Also, association football was the first codified form of football.

Yes, all this. I find as I get older my sports of choosing are soccer and baseball. I mean I can watch a basketball game from time to time (at a bar) and hockey now bores me to tears. I've been less and less interested in American football as I grow older, though I prefer the college game much more than the professional one (the constant stops are less in the college game due to less TV timeouts and a shorter play clock).

The MLS (where both New York Red Bulls and NYCFC play) has grown massively in quality, player-wise and tactical-wise, but if you really want to see something, the Champions League, whose semi-finals are going on this week (on Fox Sports 1 in the US, I think), is where to really see the best combination of great tactics and great players - and if you can only see one Champions League game in this mid-week, try for Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich.

In general, MLS soccer sucks compared to the rest of the world. Just ask the US National Team coach. Watch English Soccer, particularly when the top teams play against each other, or the UEFA Cup knock out matches. They are much more entertaining.

I didn't know what I was missing until I watched Louis Suarez(the World Cup biter from Uruguay) and Daniel Sturridge play for Liverpool in the 2013-2014 season. That was exciting soccer.

The slow tactical phase of soccer is as boring to me as the pre-snap phase of football is to a soccer fan. The nuances don't hold the interest of casual fans.

Well if you are ever curious about it live, it seems that the closest MLS team to you (I'm assuming you live close to Little Rock in Arkansas?) is FC Dallas. I realize that's a ways, but you may be in Dallas at some point, right? They play in Frisco, which is north of Dallas proper. As a bonus, they are having a great season and are arguably the best team in the league right now. And Toyota Stadium seems to be a nice place to catch a game while watching it on TV.

No. Football was given that name in order to distinguish it from soccer in the first place.
To us, it is the BEAST.

based on the article he posted a link for before, I seem to remember that he is correct.

It's un-American. They try to make it American by calling it Soccer, but it's still the same thing.

Football, whether "Association" or not, has been known as a kicking game since at least (if not before) the codification of the Cambridge Rules in 1848. Now, later on you had Rugby Football, Gaelic Football, etc... but the term Football by itself has never really been used to distinguish it from Association Football (where 'soccer' as a term arises). You can wiki it.

I found this as an interesting aside on the United States Soccer Federation:

The sport's governing body is the United States Soccer Federation; however, it was originally called the U.S. Football Association, and was formed in 1913 by the merger of the American Football Association and the American Amateur Football Association. The word "soccer" was added to the name in 1945, making it the U.S. Soccer Football Association, and it did not drop the word "football" until 1974, when it assumed its current name.

You know way too much about it.

This is old news Imran. I've posted it many times in the past. You've always protested... against the facts... as usual

Sorry, Sava. I did a search - the only article you've posted is how the term 'soccer' arises from Britain, but I've seen nothing as to Americans calling American football as "football" to distinguish it from soccer. Unless there is some hidden article you've posted on how the US chose 'football' to refer to the sport distinguish it from soccer (even though, the US game is obviously descended from rugby football).
