I've already posted it twice in the last year. You didn't read it/comprehend it then. Why would you now?

This seems to be a case where you aren't choosing to be wrong... you just seem to lack the ability to be correct.

To us, it is the BEAST.

on the off chance you gained a few IQ points since then:

      try again

lets see if the third time is the charm

this "football" nonsense is because of some uppity Brits

You are such a weirdo Sava, that's the exactly article I was referring to. It doesn't say what you claimed in post 21 - in fact the opposite.

        I quote from the article:
"The rugby football game was shortened to 'rugger,' a term recognised in British English to the present day, and the association football game was, plausibly, shortened to 'soccer'" Szymanski wrote.

Americans merely adopted the colloquialism, and understandably so given that their own, homegrown American Football (invented in 1869) would have been likely confused with the English kick-and-run sport.
The kicking game was given the name 'soccer' to distinguish it from American football, not gridiron given the name football to distinguish it from soccer as you said in #21.

In addition, note my responses in the previous thread:

Especially the "duh" in Post #2 there.

Your memory and reading comprehension (or at least sentence construction) needs help.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

          oh okay

so I'm right about everything except I mixed up which one got called what first

          thanks

so lets review: Soccer was pretty much always called soccer until elitist Brits in the 80's stopped doing it.
To us, it is the BEAST.

You mean you were right about everything except the entire statement you made?

Is that what you think my point was?

I'll be clear. Again... since you are slow:

I don't like soccer for a few reasons:

                Insufferable american fans
Officiating is bananas and inconsistent and often duped into handing out penalties which dishonorable players exploit.
Reluctance to add in technology where it would be a huge benefit.

The game is great to play but it's just not that great to watch except at the highest echelons and even then...

                  agree

though, I'd say that soccer can be fun to watch, I imagine, if you are in a loud crowded bar and not actually watching the game, but just reacting to the rare instance when someone scores:

someone scored? HOLY SHIT A MIRACLE!!!

                  GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL

now lets watch two more hours of great ball possession
well, is it two hours? I wouldn't know because the timer counts up

but it is fun because you are drinking and not actually watching

Where was this point in post 21? Or post 13 (which looks laughable in your new argument)? Maybe you used much fewer syllables than you intended to there? Or did you just add this in after being shown wrong.

(FWIW, you are actually incorrect on that general point as well:

The rules of association football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863 and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as an Oxford "-er" abbreviation of the word "association".[42]
So at the very least there were 20 years between the formation of the Football Association and the first use of the word 'soccer', by the rich folk at that)

as rah said, I've posted that many times before

Don't be ashamed for just learning about it.

                      yes

followed by 100 years of usage for the term

great performance in this thread, Imran... keep it up

                        Sava,

Uh... I mean, not when it began... but afterwards for a while."

And of course, you already know that I knew this before you. But continue your digging. You are amusing in your Ben-like wrongness.

                          "pretty much"

Imran, it is clear that you still don't know this. That's the reason we are having this discussion.

At Least 20 years since FA codification, which was, btw, 20 years after the Cambridge Rules. Oh, but only 40 years .

Let's recap the moronic argument: British folks always have called the sport soccer, so that's why its called football in the US, to distinguish it from soccer.

Oh, wait... Americans used soccer to distinguish it from their own football

Oh, I just mixed it up, I'm still right.

Oh, wait... The British haven't always called it soccer since its beginning either.

Oh, well I'm Sava and I'll just double down on my wrongness.

                            --

Do you ever tire of being so wrong?

So, you are completely wrong here, right? Using football to describe soccer is totally ok, since that is how it was used at its beginning, and by the lower classes since the start.
