That's because you're missing the one key element.
The activity is nowhere near as important as the company.
The bar is set really low there.
If people really want to be with each other, it doesn't really matter what they're doing. (Yes, there are exceptions and extremes but generally reasonably smart people can avoid those, or even sometimes not but end up laughing about it later.
    Suggest anything.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

You know a lot of necrophiliacs?

      And yes.

I was bored, lonely, and had $10k burning a hole in my pocket.

Also, am I on like a timetable here? She gave me her number and told me to call her so we could hang out. If I don't call her within X hours, does something bad happen?

Dude, just chill. Stop worrying about it. Call if you have something to actually say I guess.

Also, I find it weird that she gave me her number, because we already regularly communicate via social media.

Giving you her number is a positive, significant signal: She is interested in conversations that are not public.

                        Great sign.

Add her to your phone contacts, then give her a call at some random, low-impact time. Before the next group thing would be nice, but my guess is she understands that you're not a fast mover in this area. No pressure.

I'm not trying to castigate you. Anxiousness about these things isn't weird for people without existing mental or social issues. Nevertheless, my advice is the same: just stay calm. You don't want to act too desperate.

Try inviting her for a game of Settlers of Catan. That way she's committed to spending at least an hour and the focus will be on something other than the two of you. Also, cheap, assuming you have the game.

This is the first thought that springs to mind for me. The potential pitfall here is that if she's not a board game person, she might be intimidated/weirded out by me and my nerd friends when we start obsessing over the correct placement of one's initial roads...
