  • Bruce Jenner wants to called Belinda

I suppose he reasoned Loretta was taken

I mainly think of Bruce Jenner as an outstanding athlete, before all this nonsense with the Kardashians.

In some important way the world has become perverse and less solid since Bruce the Olympian hero became something less admirable.

It's like the celebrity world somehow emasculated him

Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

I hate the Kardashians with a passion. However, it seems like they could end up doing some good for LGBT issues.

Gotta say though, I don't understand what causes someone to have gender issues like this. But more power to him. It has to be tough.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Bruce is one of the few masculine names that doesn't have a feminine homolog, i.e., Charles and Charlotte, John and Joanne, Henry and Henrietta, etc.

The pythons were definitely ahead of their time. That's one of my favorite sketches.

One of my best friends has suddenly decided he's "genderfluid". He's been suffering from depression and this is pretty much totally out of the blue. It's extremely obvious he's not "genderfluid" or whatever the **** that means; his problems stem from other facts that I won't share on an internet forum. I'm hoping he grows out of this stupidity, instead of blaming patriarchy!!! or whatever the **** on his problems.

I've noticed acquaintances of mine decide things like this about their identity several times now. So far each of them has eventually gotten over it and reverted to accepting that they are male. I think people decide to do this stuff because they are going through a dark time and need attention and support, and unconsciously recognize this is a cheap and easy way to get it and then convince themselves that their problems might actually stem from some ~psychological gender issues~ rather than actually facing and confronting their actual problems.

It's entirely admirable to be true to yourself in the face of adverse public reaction. It's tough enough for Joe Average to go through this, let alone being in the media spotlight.

I think Bruce Jenner has shown an amazing amount of courage. IMO, even after his surgery, he'll have more balls than most of us.

How were they ahead of their time? Transgender people have been around for thousands of years.

I smell political correctness - I could have scripted that response.

They certainly seem to think so. I've been helping this friend pull his life together, get a job, etc. I'd do just about anything for my friends.

One thing I won't do is pretend that their problems stem from society rather than themselves.

I wouldn't say their problems stem from society. In fact, I wouldn't say they have a problem at all. The only problem is that people are assholes. If people stop being assholes, there's no problem.

Who cares how people want to define themselves? Isn't that how a free country is supposed to operate? Don't you often pontificate how awesome a country America is because people can come here and escape whatever persecution they faced?

Put your money where your mouth is, hypocrite.

Are your deeply held beliefs on what constitutes gender so important to you that you have to try and shame other people?

The only proper response to your attitude towards transgendered folks is: FUCK OFF

Beyond that, I'd say you'd need to be pushed down a flight of stairs. But I'd only prefer that as a last resort... when we've determined that you are a totally lost cause.
