I can totally acknowledge your point of "free market not capitalism" but we have neither in the US so why are we splitting hairs?
If the government buys a business, that's not capitalism per the definition you accepted (which I agree really lacks the depth of all capitalism has to offer but we're on a nice long threadjack at this point and I didn't really want to belabor it). The business has become, at least in part, public property.
Therefore, non-capitalist.I'm not conceited, conceit is a fault and I have no faults...

well this is the OT, it would be rude not to threadjack.
my point about your definition was that it didn't support your assertion about capitalism; an assertion that i reject.
but anyway, you seem to be saying that capitalism excludes the government from bailout, and presumably interfering in other ways with private business, otherwise it's not capitalism, and the economic system in the state which does such a thing cannot be called capitalism. this means that there are no capitalist state in the world, nor have there ever been any. i don't think that's a tenable position."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

I think I see where you're going though... I think.
So when is it okay for the government of a capitalist society to jump in and perform a bailout compared to when it is not? Liberalism would like to pull it in more often to protect the people, perhaps even spread the ownership of the company out a bit while they're in there bailing it out...(I know I'm butchering at this point, but I'm having fun doing it and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to go full circle to the original Liberalism reference.)

i would say that giving a bailout to a capitalist organisation does not make it any less capitalist. it is simply capitalists using their political power to make a claim on society's resources. a non-capitalist reaction by the state to a failing business would be something like expropriating it without compensation, or legitimising a takeover by the workers."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

I just read an article on mother jones. Idiot liberal commenters, while ultimately being on the right side, can be just as dumb with their offerings. Some guy with a Louie Gohmert avatar (colored red with 666 on his forehead) used the term "cancervative"
sigh... but the thing is, louie gohmert is a gomer and has probably been told so a lot in his life
it never stopped him beforeTo us, it is the BEAST.
