  • Where ever it would have been in a few more years!

If we had a good negotiator, we could have gotten a deal where Raul Castro gave us the entire island and offered himself as prisoner!

    • I do kind of think that if we had just waited for the brothers to die we could have claimed victory.

Yeah, but they've got that damn socialist healthcare over there. Makes them practically immortal!

          • Not surprisingly, wrong people like to double down on wrongness.

I'd forgotten how entertaining it is watching ignorant douchebags piss into the wind.
To us, it is the BEAST.

With their patrons facing economic troubles, I would have expected a demand for governmental reforms to allow the Cuban people more freedoms before we handed the Castro regime an economic lifeline.

              • The people that have been expecting that for the last 50 years may have finally been convinced of the futility of it.

                • The interesting question here is going to be whether or not Congress follows through on Obama's promises to Cuba.

                  • Unfortunately very unlikely.

I was all for the embargo back in the 60's and 70's but considering some of the countries we do deal with, and the lack of effectiveness, I think it's well past the time to be so continuing the spite of JFK.

                    • The Cuban embargo has been one of the biggest foreign policy fails in US history.

It's laughable that supporters of the embargo still exist. But then again, there's never a shortage of retarded nutbags. So I shouldn't be surprised.

Ah, that always successful policy of trying to force other countries to have the type of government you want them to. Very wise..

I read something a while back that claimed that Castro and JFK were in discussions about working together to improve the situation before JFK's assassination. There was a note from Castro saying to JFK that he was open to talks and that he understood if JFK needed to continue the public polemic to ensure he didn't harm his domestic position. I've wondered regularly since then if it was actually true.

                          • That would surprise me since it so well know that he and his brother were quite butt hurt over the whole failed invasion thingy and the other thingies of the time.
I never heard about the note. I may have to actually search a bit since that would put a slightly different slant on things.

Sounds like something an ardent statist would support.

I was pretty blown away by it. It could turn out to be nonsense of course, but from what I recall it was on the back of JFK feeling like he'd been deceived by the military/CIA over Bay of Pigs and that whole fiasco.
