So they were rioting on the assumption that it was a farce and a whitewash.

Granted there is some historical examples of farces and whitewashes by GJs but to project that since it's happened before it automatically happening now is conceding that there can never be justice.
Review the evidence that they used to make their decision and then protest if you still disagree.

And I'm not even going to to into the inappropriateness of looting and arson as a form of protest when you're protesting injustice.

According to released testimony, what happened was the officer politely asked Brown and his companion to stop walking in the middle of the street and move onto the sidewalk. Brown immediately became violently angry and when the officer asked him again to walk on the sidewalk he attacked the officer through the police cruiser's window.

According to released testimony, witnesses contradicted each other. That's usually enough for probable cause and an indictment. We're not talking about trial standards of guilt here.

I have no idea what happened, nor do you. Witnesses suck, as is often the case. My big takeaway here is that cops should carry cameras. If there are privacy concerns, only turn the cameras on when a weapon is drawn. That wouldn't be difficult.
